ASUS P5B Deluxe with DTS output

Hello i recently build my new HTPC system using the P5B Deulxe mother.

I have connected the SPDIF out connector to my Doldby headphones receiver but no matter what i do on the SoundMax Audio software the sound is not coming as DTS on my receiver.

With my previous mb and Intel G945 with Intel HD audio this was working just fine i could just set the output to only on Digital out.

I belive the problem with the soundmax is that it outputs analog audio at the moment. Is there anyway to change that?

Welcome to AT.

Are you saying soundmax is only outputting analog, or is it doing PCM / DD alright and DTS is the only issue?

Dumb question - are you sure the source you're trying to play has a DTS track?

thanks for the quick reply and the welcome.

I manage to make the soundmax software to output dts when its supported by the audio track. but i do have another problem.

I have a digital out from my pc going on my DH receivers digital IN. From there i use the DH receiver's digital OUT and connected it to my Digital Audio 1 on my HDTV. Unfortuantley the sound does not output at all from my HDTV where it used to work just fine before as Virtual Dolby Surround.

Any ideas how i can fix that?

Thanks again

What happens if you connect the digital out from the computer straight to the TV?

i have to test that when i get home. Tho i have to connect it with coaxial cable. atm i have an optical cable from my pc to my receiver and then from my reciver i have an optical to coaxial converter to my tv.

really strange was happening here.

On a side note when no audio track is playing at all i get a static iretating noise

after some reading i think the problem here is that soundmax DOES NOT Convert stereo sound sources to multi-channel format on the fly. I dont have any experience at all with sound and soundcards in general but it seems that soundmax will only output multichannel sound if the track supports it. The Sigmatel sound chip found on all new Intel motherboards on the other hand does not have this problem because i belive it always converts 2channel stereo to multichannel format. Also this soundcard that i have found does this http://turtlebeach.com/site/products/soundcards/mtgoddl/indetail.asp

YOyoYOhowsDAjello correct me if i am wrong.

ok so that article sums it up that i cannot have DD or DTS on all the time with soundmax.

If i buy a Turtlebeach Montego and Bluegears / HDA X-Mystique or XPlosion will this change. According to your article and to the specification of those soundcards they will always convert PCM stereo to multichannel right?

You can have them do that, but you can also have them leave it in PCM form. For my own card, I leave it in PCM/passthrough mode for most of the time and only switch on DD encoding when I play a game.
