On the link Asus makes the Premium seem superior to the Deluxe. The article implies that the Premium has better bios which can take advantage of the PCI express, but it never REALLY metions that their talking about the Premium over the Deluxe. I just purchased the Deluxe and it makes me want to take it back and buy the Premium. The only real difference that I can see is the IEEE 1394 speed. The Deluxe has 400Mbs and the Premium has 800Mbs. Oh yea, the Premium also has 1 more lan port.

So if anyone knows the TRUE difference between the two, can you help me decided whether its worth getting the Premium over the Deluxe.

Thanks

I bought the Premium P5AD2. I will get it on Wednesday. When I get it, I will let you know what it does or does not do.

I went to www.zipzoomfly.com

I am replacing an FX-53 system. I speced up a Intel 550, with the P5AD2 and 1 gig of Corsair PC5400. I want to overclock the crap out of it. I want to get about 4.2. That;s my goal. I have all SATA drives. I ordered a ATI X600XT card. I was going to go X800XT, but at almost $600, it was too much.

I should have it today. If UPS ever gets here.

I will let you know about it when I get it. I will also try benchmarks.

From Asus's own website KB:

What's the difference between P5AD2 Premium and P5AD2 Deluxe?

Basically P5AD2 Premium and P5AD2 Deluxe's diferences are as below,
P5AD2 Premium: Dual LAN, 1394b, Black PCB color.
P5AD2 Deluxe: Single LAN, 1394a, Yellow PCB color

From my research, there is little difference between them.

I have tried the board and after 20+ hours, I can only get 3.7 stable. I can get to 1000-250 FSB by reducing the CPU clock, but she can't get to 4.0.

All in all, a good board, but it falls short of my hopes.

The board has way too much stuff on it. I don't use firewire, wireless lan, second lan, the extra 4 Sata ports, most of the stuff on it.

I am probably going to RMA it and pick a lesser board. The P5AD2 has way more than I need.

I was so hoping for 4.0.

My 3.6Ghz P4 hits 4.4Ghz on my P5AD2 Premium without an issue. I become limited there by my memory bus speed since my SATA controller on the southbridge drops out if FSB goes above 648Mhz (part of the overclock lock Asus hasn't gotten past yet I assume).

At any rate, your overclock isn't limited by your motherboard. You may have gotten unlucky on the chip. Good luck on a new board if you go through with the RMA though.

Upon deciding to build a new system I chose the ASUS P5AD2 Premium, along with Corsair DDR2 XMS2, an Enermax 600W "Noisetaker" power supply, and a P4 775 560 "Prescott" processor. I've not been able to install XP Pro because the system shuts down due to heat during the install - the system idleS at 65 degrees C. Following Intel's advice, I purchased a new case and the problem persist. Intel is shipping me a new P4. After remoing the processor, upon close examination of the motherboard, I found a pin missing in the processor socket. ASUS tech support reviewed my situation and stated it was not anything I'd done and suggested I go back to the vendor I'd bought it from since it was still in the first 30 days following the purchase. AJUMP.COM REFUSED TO EXCHANGE THE BOARD STATING I HAD DAMAGED IT.

As for as the board goes - I believe it to be a great choice offering the best in expansion capabilities. I took months deciding upon my components. I've found ASUS tech support to be excellent. Corsair was also excellent in helping me with the correct settings for their memory.

AVOID AJUMP.COM - THEY WILL IGNORE YOU IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG AND LEAVE YOU WITH DAMAGED GOODS!
