I'm thinking about getting the P4T533-c but noticed on that the Asus website says the board is only qualified with Samsung 1066-35 rdram (MR16R0828BN1-CM9). Does anyone have experience with other memory in the board?

Thanks

Rambus PC1066 is not yet available.......so no one has had any experience with it. I just saw Kingmax ???? or Kingston ????? PC1066 post about being available yesterday or day before yesterday.

gsethi,

Kingston PC1066 RDRAM is available at a number of online places, I just assumed that others were as well. Maybe I'm going to be a guinea pig...

Well, if your going to be a guinea pig, you may as well post how it works for you and how far you can overclock it. ;)

Acanthus,

Mushkin is the first place I looked but I don't see it on their site -- how do you get it?

Have you ordered this? I was thinking of doing the same thing, but I am debating ordering today or waiting until next week.

Thanks,
Den

My shipment of 1GB of Kingston PC1066 32ns RDRAM will be here on Thursday, but the processor (2.53GHz) and the motherboard (P4T533-C) won't be here until Friday. I'll let you know how it does then...

Den,

No, I haven't ordered -- and now that I see jbond04 is going for it, I'll let him be the guinea pig :D

Great, I look forward to your report. One question, is that 1GB of ram 4x256MB Kingston KVR1066X16-8/256? If so, one sugestion if you have any trouble, try it with just 2 sticks.
Also just out of curiosity did you get it from GoogleGear?

Thanks

 hey guys i am building my first system, and i am at the mobo buying stage now, i was really looking at this p4t533-c and have been searching for reviews which utilize the new rdram 1066 and compare it with the DDR333 sis645dx mobo, how do these compare as far as room to grow for future processor speeds. seems the 1066 has the most growth ability and ddr333 is going to be bottle necked as the p4 gets faster. True? thats why i was looking at this asus board. also do you guys think there will be more 850e mobos coming out in the near future with more onboard goodies and Overclocking ability than the asus board. i mean should i wait and hold onto my money for another month?

That 32ns RDRAM sounds great -- quick math yields at least 1.2 GHz effective. However, I think the mobo's clock generators may be the limiting factor. There was a popular overclocking article a couple months back (sorry no link) where they had to change out the mobo's clock generators to get from 800 to 1066 MHz. I'd like to go RDRAM -- it looks like PC1066 and even sometimes PC800 outperforms DDR -- but I'm afraid that no matter what ram I get the mobo will be the limiting factor.

I don't even know what the i850 options are, but I think some info on the clock generators will help in our buying decision. My assumption is, regarding overclocking the memory, the newer the mobo the better. So I think that will eliminate older solutions like the TH7-II. It sounds like the P4T533 is validated (by Asus) for PC1066. Anyone know about the other mobos?

Thanks.

Alright everybody...I got my RAM (Kingston 32ns PC1066--KVR1066X16-8/256), my motherboard (Asus P4T533-C), and my 2.53GHz processor. I'll post some benchmarks tomorrow. I can't wait to get it up and running!

As for the Gigabyte board--it looks great, but the problem is that you can't buy it yet...no vendor has any in stock at all. As for now, the P4T533-C is the only choice for the i850E chipset.

And as far as o/c'ing goes, I don't think that these PLL's (clockgens) will have any problem hitting 66MHz above spec. Going from 400-->533 is one thing, but 533-->600 doesn't seem all that difficult. Again, I'll let everyone know tomorrow. With any luck, I'll be running a 2.85GHz P4 w/ a 150MHz FSB and PC1200 RDRAM!!!

Until then...

damn that sounds like a fine rig !
i'm getting the same Motherboard + 2.26P4, and Kingston memory, hopefully sometime next week. :D Hope your assembly goes well !

I am ordering the same thing JBond has the moment I hear back from him that the Kingston memory does indeed work with the ASUS board. I am woried since the ASUS website says to use the Samsung chip only, but I bet that is because that was all that was available when they were certifying the MB, not because other PC1066 won't work.

Three cheers for the Guniea Pig JBond!!! :)

Thanks,
Den

Are you sure you want to know how much I payed for everything? You're gonna hate me... ;)

I got the RAM the day (probably even the hour) that PC1066 was available, from dljsystem.com, for $125 a stick, so I payed $500 for the RAM. I also bought my P4T533-C from them for $165 (at the time, the best price).

My processor is where the story gets interesting... Before Intel officially announced the price drops, some vendors had preemptively dropped their prices to match Intel's (percentage-wise); what they forgot is that Intel wasn't going to drop the price on the 2.53GHz model. I found a 2.53GHz processor, from compuplus.com, for $485!!! The day after I ordered, they realized their mistake, and raised the price up to about $650...

So I got a relatively good deal on all of my components-but don't be too jealous, because I haven't upgraded my computer since the summer of 2000, so while you guys were running your Tbirds and AthlonXP's and P4 1.6A's, I was still puttering along on my PIII 600EB.

Anyway, as I type, I am assembling it right now, so I'll definitely post some benchmarks tomorrow, and I'll be sure to let everyone know about the compatibility of the RDRAM. See you then!

Well, the cpu is about $650, the MB is about $170 the ram is $159*4 so the total is about $1450 plus tax and shipping. I can't wait :)

On the PC1066 memory. Are you sure that it is not overclocked PC800 memory?

I called to order from DLJ System (they had sold out of the PC1066 at that time) and the person I talked to there was very upfront in saying that they had discovered that all their PC1066 memory was overclocked PC800.

As far as I can tell the Samsung PC1066 that is approved by Asus for the P4T533C is not yet available.

Just an FYI for everyone.

I opted for PC800 memory for the time being. I may see if I can overclock it to 1066 and then wait for the approved stuff to come out and drop a bit in price.

Like I said...I'll be sure to test out the RAM as soon as I finish the rig (I just have to install the OS--didn't have time to do that last night), but as far as I can tell, from the packaging, it looks to be identical to the same Kingston stuff that googlegear sells as 32ns PC1066 RDRAM; so unless all of the vendors on the internet are wrong...
