Asus P4T-E vs. Abit TH7II - Which one to get?

I'm about ready to P4 myself.. The only thing I've been wondering about is which of these 2 motherboards to get -- I'm not interested in another other -- be it chipset or brand..

I know they are both decent motherboards and I can't go wrong with either as far as stability and compatibility goes.. I guess it's a question of features and future upgradeability..

Am I correct in understanding that one advantage of the Abit TH7II over the Asus P4T-E is that it can handle up to 8 IDE drives instead of the standard 4..?

Any other information of this nature would be welcomed.. Thanks in advance..

Abit TH7II. it's just as stable as P4T-E, but is guaranteed to run at 533fsb+PC1066 RDRAM (need RDRAM that can run that fast but still). As for the IDE ports, yes TH7II-RAID supports 8 IDE channels

Oh, I know the RAID version supports 8 drives, but I clicked on TH7II-only link and it still mentioned 8 drives.. I suppose it's simply not accurate on their web site or they are using the same information..

As for supporting a 533 FSB and PC-1066 RDRAM.. Is this "officially" and "intended" or will it be some kind of workaround..? Are you telling me this is something the Abit P4T-E cannot possibly do no matter what..?

Both are great boards. People who have the ASUS P4T-E feel that this board is superior for its stability and performance, but I feel that ABIT is just as stable, and a MUCH better overclocker. Probably the best overclocking board based on the Intel 850 chipset. I've built two systems with the TH7II, no problems whatsoever.

No workaround. There is an option for 133Mhz Fsb in the BIOs, and this board has plenty of times over been able to hit 133fsb provided the CPU can be overclocked that much (like a 1.6A being able to hit 2.1GHz), and then as long as you have RDRAM that can hit PC1066,you can hit PC1066 as well. P4T-E some of them have weaker clock generators and can't hit 133Mhz fsb even if the RAM and CPU can. Understand now?

I'm using the ASUS board with an added Promise IDE controller. I have 6 drives connected with no problems.

I've only overclocked "a bit" but have had no problems at all with it.

One minor complaint: the IDE cable that came with the mobo was bad and every few days would lead to currupted system files and/or random reboots. It took me a long time to track down the problem, which disappeared with a new IDE cable.

Other than that I'm very pleased with the mobo.

If you're not going to overeclock, or overclock very minimally, the two boards (TH7II & P4T-E) are nearly similar in every category of benchmarks and stability. The difference comes in overclocking. The Abit TH7II will overclock better, and with less v-core boost than the P4T-E.

Not that I necessarily want to OC a lot, but I've been using Abit's forever and have never run into any problems. I think I'll go with the TH7II. Thanks for the comments.

people, I know ATACOM has INTEL pentium4 1.6A (overclock to 2.1ghz) and 1.8A(overclock to 2.4ghz) bundle for sell at ATACOM.com. They are using ASUS P4TE and ABIT TH7II. DOes any one bought one set?
