Allright, I'm gong to throw some temps up to compare with PJ. I'm running my system in my Lian-Li case: a semi-quiet rig not optimized for cooling the new Intel Chernobyl chip. Well, I don't really think it 's that bad, here's some numbers/info to chew on.

Prescott 2.8 OEM
Markings
2.8GHZ/1M/800
SL79K Phillipines
7351A202

-------------------------

System Configuration
Asus P4S800D-E Deluxe (SiS 655TX)
Presott 2.8 OEM
Swiftech MCX4000 with a 92MM Sunon KD1209 PTB2-6, Arctic Silver 3
2X512MB Mushkin 3500 LVL2 @ 2-2-3-6
BFG FX5900nu @ 470/980
WD 36GB Raptor on Sata 1
XP PRO
53.03 Detonators
Lian Li PC65 USB case with 4X Panaflo quiet 80MM 21dba L1As.

First up: Default settings and system temperatures and voltages at idle and under load

Ambient temp: 21.1C

SYSTEM IDLE

Asus Probe:
CPU temp
Idle = 42C
VCORE = 1.431v

SYSTEM LOADED

System loaded, 100% CPU usage by running POVRAY 3.5 Benchmark and Super_PI 32M for 45 minutes.

Asus Probe:
CPU Temp
Load = 57C
VCORE = 1.343v

---------------------------------

Overclocking with this chip is not what you would typically expect from Intel recently. I was able to max out this mobo @265FSB with my 2.4C. Whether it was this particular chip or the chip/mobo combo Max stable FSB at default Vcore so far is 221FSB.

Benchmarks @ 221FSB

Super_PI 2M = 1 min 42 sec

-----------------------

GunMetal Benchmark1:
FPS:
Min = 19.69
Ave = 31.62
Max = 60.10

------------------------

Aida32:

Read = 5757
Write = 2077

------------------------

Aquamark = 44033

------------------------

X2 Rolling demo = 106.82 FPS

----------------------------

I'll post up some temps O'clocked when I have them.

I'm dying to try one of these on water. I'll wait for the 3.0 or 3.2. Give us some more results PF.

System temps A 220 FSB: (had to lower FSB to 220 from 221)

After sitting idle 1 hour = 43 C

Full load 100% CPU usage as before = 57 C

Heat doesn't seem to be a determining factor in my attempts to O'clock the CPU.

How are you liking the 655TX? It looks to be a compelling choice for a P4 rig.

I was liking it right up to the point I couldn't break 220 FSB with the Prescott. ;)
I need to try this chip on another mobo and see if it's a compatability issue or just the chip.

:Q those are "IC7 type" temps! :Q (very high)

how are all the voltage rails holding up under load?

Update
Managed to boot into windows @ 240 FSB.
Changed the Mushkin out for OCZ 3700 Gold v1.
In addition to DDR Precharge being set to 6 despite what bios settings are chosen (with both a C chip and the Prescott) , now memory dividers make no difference. 400, 333, 266...Sandra reports DDR frequencies of 1:1. So with the OCZ I'm booting much higher. Can bench some at 235, stable at 228 FSB.

how are all the voltage rails holding up under load?

228 FSB, system loaded by PovRay bench:

Load:
+12V = 11.977 - 12.159
+5V = 5.187 - 5.214
+ 3.3V = 3.392 - 3.424
VCore = 1.327 - 1.353

Idle:
+12V = 12.159 - 12.22
+5V = 5.187 - 5.214
+ 3.3V = 3.392 - 3.424
VCore = 1.373 -1.421

I am guessing Prescott is not easy to overclock and I am better off sticking with Northwood or no ?. When does Intel comes out with ddr 2?

Here's some updated numbers at 228 and 230 FSB.
Note the Mushkin has been changed out in favor of the OCZ 3700 Gold v1.
So, first 228 FSB, DDR 1:1, 2.5-3-3-6.

Benchmarks @ 228FSB

Super_PI 2M = 1 min 39 sec

-----------------------

GunMetal Benchmark1:
FPS:
Min = 19.70
Ave = 31.85
Max = 61.05

------------------------

Aida32:

Read = 6059
Write = 2085

------------------------

Aquamark = 44226

------------------------

X2 Rolling demo = 109.9 FPS

Benchmarks @ 230FSB
VCore in bios @ 1.4v
Super_PI 2M = 1 min 38 sec

-----------------------

GunMetal Benchmark1:
FPS:
Min = 19.69
Ave = 31.85
Max = 60.04

------------------------

Aida32:

Read = 6124
Write = 2237

------------------------

Aquamark = 44291

------------------------

X2 Rolling demo = 110.82 FPS

-----------------------

And PovRay Bench 3.5 ver 1.02 @ 230 FSB = 32 min, 48 sec

-----------------------

At this point too I've taken the side cover off my case. The 80mm L1As not providing enough airflow it seems.

looks like every 2mhz on the fsb takes 1 second off your PI times
but it looks promising keep it going
heck you might even need better cooling to max that thing out

good luck

This is the chip I bought off of you Professorfate. I'm successfully running it @260FSB with my Abit IS7. Seems like it was your mobo. I was able to reach this with corsair pc3200cl2 @2-3-3-6 and Samsung pc3200 @3-4-4-8 both @5:4. I sold my ram and I?m going to get some Geil 4200 to get some sweet 1:1 action. Whats the highes vdimm the p4c800 offers? I might have to change mobos to get more vdimm.

Cool, I figured it was the mobo. In fact, it's being RMA'd due to the memory ratios in the bios failing. Stock 2.85 vdimm is the best the P4C800 offers.
G/L and how about some benchies with the IS7? :D

I can't believe you would even buy the Prescott P4 at this early stage, but from a curiosity point of view i'm glad you did, and tested it, good stuff.

By the way I am new here ;-)

Prescot is running tits, dunno what you mean. Don't always believe what you read. I sold my corsair and samsung ram. I have some pc2100 in my is7 right now so I cannot get you some benchies. I have some geil pc4200 on order right now, I will get back at you guys with some benchies if youd like though

were you using the Swiftech MCX4000 for this test? If not please provide which heatsink you used for this, unless you were using water. thanks

Is that Tornado running at full tilt? If so I pity your ears, I had a 92mm version that cooled my P4 very well, but I had to take it out because it was so damn loud I couldn't even sleep.

Its loud alright but its not that bad when I have the side panel of my case on. It's usually off cause im always reseting the cmos. I'm considering getting something quiter.

Here is what im contemplating:

Zalmakn 7000-clu
Thermal - SP 94

What would you guys recommend out of these 2? Also, what fan would go with the sp-94 best? I want to keep my temps about the same as my current setup but with a little noise reduction.
