Asus P4PE owners! (or anybody with an 845PE)

Hey guys, like hopefully some of you reading this i'm a proud owner of a Asus P4PE mobo. Are you guys gonna stick with it for a while or what are your thoughts. Canterwoods are out and those Springdales look really nice too. Any thoughts? I think i'm gonna stick with the p4pe (with my p4 2.4b) for a couple years before I upgrade but I'm not a upgradeaholic like some of you guys here hehe. Actually anybody with a 845PE mobo chime in!

I like my P4PE/L 🙂 I've had it quite awhile now and I run my 2.4B@3ghz, 167fsb, DDR418 and it handles all my computing needs adequately. Will I be keeping for a couple years? Heck no! but I'll wait another 2-3 months and see what shakes out with the new board and CPU prices before upgrading my Intel rig again. I'm too busy playing with my AMD setup right now because it's a lot cheaper to upgrade and just more fun to tweak and play with

im quite satisfied with my 845pe mobo, except for the fact that it lacks overclocking options (its an intel board). So, i think im gonna get a board that has overclocking options, and while im at it, im goint to go for dual channel memory. i figure i might as well get the best performing chipset for the money.

i love my p4pe, 3.06, how much faster could a new 865 or 875 be?. as soon as i click, things happen..fast.i did however just buy the new p4p800pe board but im not gonna bother installing until i can buy a new C 800mhz cpu. i just bought the soltek nforce2 board along with a barton 2800,( combo only cost $275 wow!!) ill play with that for a while(like dapunisher)

I'm not going to replace my mobo soon either (w/ p4 2.66ghz) The performance boost on the 800fsb hasn't been impressive enough for me to switch. The net results on most benchmarks has only been about 2-6%. not enough for me to spend the money on a new board and new processor to benefit from it. The only major reasons for me to currently change my mobo is for SATA, onboard RAID, and higher speed support for dual channel DDR which is lacking in our mobo's.

Yeah, these Golden Flame NF2 boards are about as much fun to play with as I can remember

There is a new BIOS for the Asus P4PE mobo that will allow it to accept for new 800fsb P4s.

Don't remember the exact link, but I personally saw if myself.

I have two systems with P4PEs, and I have no intention of replacing them for at least another 18 months or more. One runs a P4 2.8 OC'd to 3.0. The other is a 2.53 OC'd to 2.8. Both steady as rocks. Have had them running now since last October and have yet to witness the first crash or freeze. That's my measure of a system worth running for a while. 🙂

The only reason I'll be upgrading from an ASUS P4PE w/ 2.4B is that my parents need a new computer soon. So I'll give them my current one and build a new Canterwood for myself. I'm just waiting for a Canterwood mobo that has the right feature set (-R version of the SB, firewire, CSA, and passive NB cooling) without any critical flaws (won't let LL memory run at SPD, problems with the radeon 9700, etc.).

hmm.. cool guys, always nice to discuss options with people who own the same thing as you lol. I'm thinking about overclocking my 2.4 to maybe 2.8 or so in a couple months. any tips for the p4pe?

I have a P4PE with the new 2.4c Intel Chip. It runs nice with Corsair XMS PC3200 RAM. I saw only minimal CPU gains. Plus side of the new HT chips is that the system sees 2 processors. So if you are into 3D Rendering or video editing (like I am) it helps. Only problem I am having is I can't seem to bump the core clock speed above 200MHz FSB without it locking up... so basically, I can't overclock it.
If anyone knows why I can't... please help me out. I didn't have a problem overclockin my old 2.4b to 2.8Ghz...

well call me a liar cuz I just ordered a new rig with a 865PE and 2.8C... I couldn't resist!

If I were buying a system now, I'd definitely go for a 875/865 solution, but I still have my 845 rig thats fast still. My intel board only lets me overclock 4% with that burn in mode, but with that on my 2.53ghz p4 runs at 2.63, I'm not that much into overclocking anymore anyways. Since everything else in my system is really fast for me too, I think I can hold out until the next big revamp of the p4 line. Heheh how long will it be before pciX replaces agp?
