Asus P4P800 - Problems With New Processor

I recently bought this - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116177 - for my Asus P4P800 motherboard. As you can see, it's a 3.4 GHz processor, Prescott core, Socket 478, 1 MB L2 cache, with 800 MHz FSB. According to http://support.asus.de/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P4P800 , this should be completely compatible from BIOS version 1017 and up. I flashed version 1019 a few minutes ago, so there should be no problems.

However, the BIOS is only showing it as a 2.8 GHz processor. Under "type" it displays Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.40 GHz, but under "speed" it displays 2800 MHz. I can't find any settings to change that would fix the problem.

Anybody have any ideas?
 
With the help of WCPUID and some other forums, I discovered the following.

My System Clock is set at 200; WCPUID records 199.97, so it's what it's supposed to be.
My FSB should be 800 MHz; WCPUID records 799.88, so that's okay too.
My MULTIPLIER should be locked at 17, according to a member of another forum; WCPUID is reporting a multiplier of 14.
It's also reporting an Internal Clock speed of 2799.59 MHz - verifying that the 2.8 GHz value reported by BIOS is not merely being mistreported.

So, my question becomes this: How do I get my multiplier to be what it's supposed to be, if it's a locked value that can't be changed in BIOS?
 
Go to the frequency and voltage conrol section in your bios, and change the multiplier from 14 to 18..however I didn't think there were any socket 478 chips that had the lower multiplier unlocked, but thats what it looks like. Some of the newer 3.4, 3.6, and 3.8ghz processors had the 14x multiplier in addition to their default multiplier, so sometimes it would default to 14x and you would have to change it in the bios. If you bios won't let you change it to 17x, then I would question weather or not you actualy got a 3.4..did you look at the markings on the chip before installing it to verify it was a 3.4?
 
Yeah, that chip has the dual multis. It's either set at the lower one in BIOS, or it's overheating and throttling to the lower one.

D/L Throttlewatch and see if that's your problem.
