Asus P4b533-V - Corsair 3200XMS compatibility issues?

I have the following system:

Asus P4b533-V
Pentium4 2,26 GHz
Corsair XMS 3200 v2.1

Right, had some airflow issues that caused the cpu to idle at ~52 C. The problem was the lack of sufficient airflow which is now fixed, idleing at 38 C. :)

The problem arises now when upping the fsb in bios. At fsb 140 running 3D Mark 2001 it would crash, and I have to restart. This is with the 4:5 memory ratio, giving DDR 350. So I set the ratio at 4:3, and suddenly it runs stable again. This it also what happens when running fsb at 150. Computer crashes at the 4:5 ratio (DDR 375), but runs fine at the 4:3 ratio at 2550 MHz. This is with Cas 2,5 - 3 - 3 - T2. I can run the CPU stable at 2720 (160*17) with the 4:3 setting, but the memory fails with the 4:5 setting which would give me DDR 400.

Now, according to my vendor, they claim it could be the motherboard as much as the ram failing here, that a bios upgrade could fix this problem.. Anyone heard of problems with the P4b533-V with Corsair XMS? I'm about to RMA my ram, but am abit unsure if it's the mobo or the ram. Thoughts ?

The cpu runs stable at 2,7 GHz with 1,55 Volts. The Ram wont do DDR 350 regardles of what volts i feed it; Auto, 2,5, 2,6 or 2,7 Volts.. Haven't tried 2,85, cause that would void the varranty.
So, any ideas of what may be causing this ?
Thanks!

Humm, interesting. Im having the exact same problem as you, and I have almost an identical setup (2.26B, ASUS P4B533-V), with the difference being that my RAM is the XMS 3000. My overclocking goal was 2.55GHz @ 150 fsb and the RAM @ DDR375. It ran fine at this with the ram @ 300MHZ @ 150FSB (1:1) but as soon as I changed it to 4:5 (375MHz) it would crash in 3DMark and Prime 95 almost instantly. Now it passes Prime 95 @ 375MHz, but it still crashes in 3DMark and my games. Even if I change my timings to 2.5-3-3-8, it still crashes @375. It runs fine at 333MHz 4:5 @ 133FSB. I also rung up my vender quite annoyed, and they said that it might be my motherboard, but I doubted that, because its ASUS, and I know that its good. Now im running at 370MHz 4:5 @ 148fsb, and its perfectly stable in 3DMark and my games (my video card isnt overclocked btw). Its interesting that it runs fine at 370MHz, but not 375MHz, because on the Corsair site they say its only rated for 370MHz (not 375Mhz, like it should be (64*370/8=PC2960, it requires 375MHz to hit PC3000)). You'd think that it would be able to overclock at least 5MHz, especially @ CAS 2.5, and when you look at THUGS RAM running @ 450MHz. This is very interesting and I'm glad that I've seen this, and now I know that its not just me or my RAM. There must definitely be a compatability issue here.

I have gotten an apporval from my vendor to rma my ram. I'll be posting back with results when I have the new stick. I hope it's the ram failing and not the P4b533-V. Still hope this mobo doesn't have issues with Corsair ram...

Have put the new stick in my mobo, and no joy.. Computer crashes over 150 fsb at 4:5 :| . Have tried all the ram slots, upping the voltage etc. The P4b533-V wont do DDR 400 with XMS 3200. I can only come to the conclusion that the P4b533 doesn't perform that well, atleast not with Corsair XMS ram, which btw is supposed to be one of the best. Have also seen other reports the same experience at the overclockers forum, so I guess it's time to rma this mobo...

This is getting scary, I have a P4B533-V, Corsair XMS3000 and a P4 2.26. I haven't even been able to install windows. I RMA'd my RAM to Corsair and they sent me a new module. It wont pass memtest86 unless I keep the CAS precharge (I think thats what it is) at 3. In other words 2-2-3-5. Obviously the RAM should be able to do 2-2-2-5. I've had 2 modules and no love so my MB is next to be RMA'd. I wonder if there is a compatibility issue with this board and Corsair.

This is just great. I'm looking forward to setting up my system, NOT. I've got the identical cpu, mem and motherboard (just waiting on this to come) setup as you Housey. I've got a single stick of corsair XMS 3200 512Mb of memory. Are you running 1/2 sticks of memory Housey. A fix to this problem would be great as, I really am dreading my overclocking outcome.

Sent back the -V and got me an -E. Did the 3/4 trick from one of the posts in this forum, and now I'm doing 2,55 GHz and DDR 400 Cas 2 - 3 - 3 - 6. (!) Haven't tried anything higher yet, but with DDR 400 at Cas 2 I bet it will do more. :D Seems after all it was the -V not being up for the task for going DDR 400. And u gotta love Corsair XMS... :)

So is this the -V or your particular board? I ask as this is the first I've read of this particular issue and I've been planning on buying the -V and some XMS 3200 in the near future.

Guys, for what it's worth I'm running Corsair XMS3200 at DDR400 and up on an Asus P4B533 (non -V). Thugsrook runs his XMS3000 up to something like DDR450 on the same board. So I'm guessing it's the motherboard that's the limitation. :(

Good luck!
