I know, I know. Check ms knowledge base. Been there, done that. At times when the system is shutdown it will restart instead. I've tried different bios', overclocked or default settings and I've even tried the setting in bios' under power, after power loss to disable instead of enabled or on. My wife is usually the last one to use it at night and sometimes when I power up the APC unit the next morning, the bios screen pops up. I figure when the screen goes black, she just turns off the APC unit. Because I can reproduce it that way if it restarts and turn the APC off, then back on it will go to bios. It will shut down properly at times, but if it reboots, goes back to windows, then shutdown again it will shutdown as it should. No real biggy, just can't figure it out.

Sys: Win98SE, ASUS P4B266, 1.6a Northwood, 256m Crucial pc2100, Matrox G400 Max d/h, Maxtor 45g ata100 or IBM Deskstar 40g ata100, Soundblaster pci128, Trendnet nic, TDK 16x cdrw, 300w p/s (that came with the case), Canon usb scanner, Epson Color 880 usb.

ps: I've tried a different nic, video card, cpu, ram, soundcard and a reinstall. No conflicts in bios

It's an OS/software problem. This has happened to me on several OSes, 98, XP, 2k. I know that in XP, it does this when it encounters a blue screen which the user doesn't see. Once you uncheck the option to see the error, it won't reboot.

But, I'm running the same OS and the same software as I was with my A7V. The A7V never acted like this if its software/os related. About the only thing I haven't changed is the power supply. So I may just swap it out next chance I get and see how that works out.
