Does anyone know much about this board. I think it's based on the i820 chip, which nobody liked when it came out. Looking for a cheap P3 slot-1 board to hold me over until I'm ready to up-grade system-can get one of these for about $35.00 and it will handle my P3 700 and 4 sdram sticks(also has 4X AGP).Thanks for any input.

Only use RDram on an 820 board. The MTH was flawed that allowed SDRAM to work with it. The 820 is actually a very good chipset. Only issues were high price of RDRam and the P3 can not use it. I have a VC820 and it is super stable. I have not had any issues with it.

I was looking into a Pentium 3 Motherboard like that ALSO! I have a P3 Cumine 600EB, I dont care about the "expensive" rambus ram. I KNOW there is the 820i MTH (northbridge) issue. But I Believe it is ONLY if you place the SDRAM converter in the motherboard to use SDRAM instead of Rambus. Besides that the motherboard is OK RIGHT?????Can some one clear that up, or is the whole 820 chipset messed up? I believe its usable, only if you use Rambus RAM.

Thanks for pointing that out gerrick.I wonder why asus would put out a slot-1 board if the memory you had to use with it wasn't P3 compatible?

ASUS no longer supports the P3C2000, and in fact, this board was recalled. That's the reason why you can get it for very cheap.

The P3C2000 supports SDRAM only....the MTH (not the NorthBridge....this is actually an additional chip), is soldered down on the motherboard.

Be aware that there are some very strict SDRAM requirements on this board, concerning sizes and DIMM slot order.

The P3C-E board is straight RDRAM only. It does not have the MTH onboard, and so is not affected by the MTH issue.

What type of RAM a system uses is not really tied to the processor. You cannot say that the Pentium III is incompatible with RDRAM. The issue is that due ot the Pentium III's design, along with an FSB that is only 133MHz, the processor cannot take advantage of the additional bandwidth offered by RDRAM, and so shows no performance increase. This also applies to DDR SDRAM being used on the Pentium III.

Thanks ANDY!! I was wondering which motherboard is faulty. So the Asus P3C-E is NOT faulty, How about the Asus PC3-L (with the LAN option) I know they ship it with the SDRAM converters, but if I dont use SDRAM I wont get any problems right?

The P3C-L is the same as the P3C-E, simply with LAN onboard. It is an RDRAM only board and not affected by the MTH issue.

The ASUS DIMM riser is actually quite hard to get, and you wouldn't want to use it anyway. Many cases have trouble fitting the DIMM riser as well.
