Hey Guys,
I have tried all i know and still cant get the AFLASH program to work.
Under DOS, i open floppy A:\ and type in aflash, but then i get these exact
words....ERROR! This Program can't run under protected Mode."
I have an ASUS P3B-F mobo and version ACPI BIOS 1003.A

Well, I just flashed the BIOS on my P3B-F a week or so ago to the newest, and I never got that problem, something must be corrupt, bad disk or bad download, try something along those lines, re-download it and put it on another disk, it is very easy to do and u should have no problems running it!

Actually, I just re-read that.. there is an option in the BIOS (maybe) on the older one i am not sure, but this option would make it able for you to flash the BIOS, I think u can disable BIOS flashing so try looking for that first possibly.. unless you want to try the other things 1st.

Are you running aflash in a DOS window or from a clean DOS boot?

Don't know that you can (or should) run aflash from a DOS window ( I never have).

Grab a DOS disk and boot off that, then try running the update...

My current BIOS version is 1003.A I noticed on the Asus site that there are two BIOS updates. Do I need to flash using both of them or can I just do it once with the newest, I think 1006?

Thanks for any tips/info.

Open Mycomputer, clik the floppy that has the flash utility on it, Right clik the aflash proggie write down what it says, should be aflash.exe or something to that effect, close it up, reboot with floppy in, at the dos prompt, type in what you wrote down, that should help :)

Try this:

1) Find a blank floppy and put it in your floppy drive.

2) Open Windows Explorer and then right-click on the A: drive. Select "format". Under "format type" you need to chose "copy system files only".

3) When it is done, I believe you will have just 4 files on the disk. Go ahead and add 2 more files to the floppy. This would be the flash program and the BIOS file.

4) Set your system to boot from floppy and then re-boot. Now follow the directions that your motherboard manufacturer give...flash BIOS, clear CMOS, etc.

You cant flash the Bios if "something" is selected in your old Bios setup.
I can't remember exactly what it is but if yiu read the manual this will
tell you what setting has to be changed before the Bios can be flashed.
But then again your problem may be something totally different

mutantaxe: that issue only applies to the P3V4X motherboard...not the P3B-F, and only to flashing the 1004 BIOS for the P3V4X.
