Asus P2L97 BIOS Update - Unknown Flash Memory - RESOLVED

So I bought an old P2 for $30 CDN with NIC, vid card, etc... Anyway, I need/want to update the BIOS. So me thinks the best place to start is Asus.com website.

I find this http://www.asus.com.tw/support/english/techref/bios/index.aspx and I download the latest .awd.

Then I run aflash.exe. But, I get the error message they refer to in the URL above (about halfway down) "IMPORTANT ! If "unknown" is displayed after Flash Memory:, the memory chip is either not programmable or is not supported by the ACPI BIOS and therefore, cannot be programmed by the Flash Memory Write utility."

How frickin' helpful! So now what am I suppose to use to update the BIOS?

Thanks! 🙂

Resolution:

-Used pflash -> Advanced -> Option 2 I think
-Appears to have been successful.

Later versions of AFLASH, such as 2.00, have dropped support for older flash chips on boards such as the P2L97. In order to flash the BIOS, you will need to find your original P2L97 CD with AFLASH.EXE on it, as that older version will work.

Thanks for the input. I was apparently able to flash via pflash (must go into the advanced section). So thanks Asus for all of your useless information. I don't care how old your product is, I am not only one in the same circumstance - they should have documentation on this scenario.

Oh well, at least I figured it out thanks to bits and peices from newgroups.
