Asus Nforce2 board quirk with soundstorm

my friend noticed that in Realplayer and in BF1942, his rear speakers don't play even with four speaker mode on. Is this true for all of you Asus users, or just him?

With 4 speaker mode, he needs to use the front L/R and rear L/R analog outputs of the Soundstorm and attach them to the corresponding Front and rear inputs of his speakers (I assume this is his setup). What kind of speakers does he have? How does he set it up (wiring-wise)?

It is set up like you described. Playing mp3s in winamp, and other thigns work fine in four speaker mode. It seems to be those two apps?

Does he have the latest nforce 2.00 drivers?

Well, he has an asus board, so he does have the latest 1.16 drives from asus, downloaded yesterday.
