So, I'm learning as I go here...so please bear with me. I know about enough networking to get myself in trouble.
Anyway - I've got the Asus n66u. I started playing around with hooking my Brother laser printer up to it via the USB print server connection, since I liked the idea of having my printer network accessible. I tried to set it up using the ASUS EZPrinter sharing and ran the utility, which runs to completion. I then get a message saying I need to follow Window's instructions to install the printer driver. Ok....if I could just find it on my network.
If I go to the control panel and search the network, I don't see the printer. However, I do see other devices that are hooked to the same router using an Ethernet cable. If I hook the printer up to the router using an ethernet cable, there it is... So my issue seems to be something with the USB printer sharing.
I'll also note I can use the LPR protocal to identify and connect to the printer when it's on the USB port. Asus also supports that option, and it's working fine for me. LPR works fine for me on my desktop, but I'd like to be able to use this printer when I bring a work laptop home, etc without going through that again. Not that it was hard, it's just a lot easier to add a printer when your computer can actually see it on the network.
So, my main question is shouldn't I be able to see this printer on my network when I look in the control panel? Is there a setting i need to change somewhere? Any tricks or tips?
