ASUS must release an KT266A motherboard!

Does anyone know if ASUS has plans, and when these will be "productified" 😉, for a KT266A motherboard?

I am planning on upgrading, but I cant do that before the card is available.. 🙂

Thinking an AMD 1,4ghz, 512MB DDR ram (CL2), 3 x 75GB IBM Deskstar 75GXP, SB Audigy and a Radeon 8500 (If ATI manages to create working drivers.. (big IF)..) would make for some sweet gaming.. 🙂

Just in time to play Dark Ages of Camelot in 1600x1200 resolution..

I like the other GXP's I have.
10, 14, 20, and 30 GB versions.

Fast, Stable, Cheap, Not very noisy.

Thinking about running 3 of them in a raid1 or raid0 configuration.
And using a 30GB IBM Deskstar as a System-boot-drive.

Perhaps only 2 75X and run raid 0, since the KT266A motherboard most likely will only have 1 IDE controller, and not 2 like the A7V133 had... (Which let you have 8 devices.. sweet.)

Asus is releasing the "A7V266-A", what a long cumbersome name. Since the KT266A is a drop in replacement for KT266 most of the big players will have new updates boards just like the transition from KT133 to KT133A.

Do you know an ETA on this?

Mid October perhaps?

🙂

1.4 Thunderbird? No way. 1.6GHz Palomino! Now we're talking smokin' performance with only 80% of the current draw! Good stuff. I will be getting whatever manufacturer's KT266A is the most stable in the Anandtech test.

Ah, 1.6ghz.. 🙂

Well, I just typed AMD 1.4, and not t-bird or anything since I was not 100% entirely sure about the 'naming' at the time of writing. =)

I heard they get _really_ hot though?

According to AMD, the Palomino (sp?) uses 20% less power then the Thunderbird. That's still hot, though! But anyone who currently has a good CPU HSF for a 1GHz and up TBird can just use it on the Pally. That's what I'm planning to do with my FOP32-1. I may re-lap it, just for good measure though.

Soon, probably a sampling in October and boards the following few weeks possibly bleeding into November. KT266A doesnt require a redesign, unless possibly the makers choose to use the new southbridge too, then it might require a bit more work. We've seen the KT266A is a good performer, and dirt cheap compared to AMD 760, the board makers will be all over it. As for SiS 735, alas anoutstanding chipset that just couldnt get it's moment to shine. Lets hope nForce doesnt have the same fate.

You have to wonder what AMD was thinking with this "Just another month" Palomino deal. They let the market stagnate uncontrollably and the cost was two huge OEM's (IBM, Gateway).
