ASUS motherboard light SUCKS in modded case - HELP!

Hey guys and Girrrrrls!
I have a nice aluminum case with a window and cold cathode pictures of which can be found here In this case is an ASUS P4S533 board. As you may be able to see from the picture, the motherboard has a yellow LED which is really quite bright. When the system is off it shines through the window and lights up the whole wall. This is really annoying when I'm trying to sleep. When the system is on, the colour of the LED turns to green (it's a blue cathode) and it looks like hell changing part of the case to a washed out green. It really ruins the nice modded look and I would love to get rid of this nasty LED somehow. I know that i can just turn the power supply off when the system is down but what if I need to have it running while I sleep and how do I get rid of it for when the system is on? It looks horrible! I was hoping that maybe someone has tried disabling it somehow...next time I just won't get an ASUS board so I dont' have to deal with hte light...

Put a little plastic or rubber cap over the LED.

Assume you don't want to desolder it an void your warranty so yeah, just cover it. Could use a model brush and some paint to completely block it out or mute it, whichever. Do it carefully and it wouldn't stand out at something ugly.

I tried some electrical tape but it still shines through. I would love to remove it. I know how to clip it off but would soldering the two pins together then cause no problems?

Amused one, you suggested a little rubber cap. This light is rather large. I don't think the kind that goes on the end of little metal rods will fit. Do you know of a type that might or where I can look for them?

You could always just pop the bulb. The MB should still work fine without it, though it will void your warranty

Don't desolder or just "pop the bulb" (it's an LED hot shot, not a wee little lamp 🙂), just get some heatshrink tape, slide it over the LED, and use a blow dryer to finish the job and get a nice bond around the LED. It's real easy to do and it makes it very light tight. 🙂

Or, try this coldshrink tape...I've never used it, but I have used the store and they're very good... Coldshrink

Naw, I was just making a suggestion. I'm sure rubber caps come in different sizes. Try your local hardware shop.

prob wouldn't take much to make it fit, plus no worries about damaging your mobo...

How about going to an auto parts store and picking up a cheap vacuum plug kit?They have quite a few sizes in the kit and I'm sure you could find one that fits 😉
