ASUS mother board problem, plz help!

I had a great computer I built which was running great for the last 2yrs. All it lacked was an internal floppy drive which was needed if I have to update the BIOS. So I wanted to put one finally & purchased a MADDOG DOMINATOR floppy drive. I also took sometime to clean up the fans, dust built-in.

With floppy drive installed, power cable on, and start of the computer brings me to ASUS LOGO SCREEN at which point the computer is stuck. Nothing happens when DEL key is pressed on keyboard. I read through the ASUS manual, and checked all the connections on the motherboard. They seem to be OK. I dont hear the beep which occurs when the comp. starts, (there was a beep before whenever the comp. starts). Not sure what went wrong.

In the manual there is a section about Jumpers, do I have to do the Clear RTC RAM (CLRTC1). not sure what this does.. but just have to get this comp. up and running asap. Please help me. I took pride in learning to build one. Thanks for reading!

Is that with Win98SE? You should take a look at your BIOS settings. You find floppy drive in the boot order options and also in another part of the BIOS where it should be set to enabled.

I experienced that same issue when I was building my sisters son a computer....
It turned out that the memory was bad!!

The thing is when the computer starts it wont go past the ASUS logo screen. Nothing happens when the DEL key is pressed on keyboard either. It has WINXP PRO on it. The computer was running great untill I opened it to put a floppy drive inside. The memory was great too, not sure how it could turn out bad exactly at the instant i opened it. Any help ?

Not sure what your problem is but the first thing I would do would be to remove the floppy.

Have you tried removing the battery?

Is the floppy light on constantly? If so, you probably have the floppy cable plugged in backwards. Did you take antistatic precautions before and during your dust cleanup and floppy installation?

Problem solved!!.. Thanks everyone who has posted their thoughts on help. The culprit was a bad cable that ran from IDE to M/B. Not sure how it got busted exactly the same moment I opened the case and cleaned up. But replacing the cable solved the problem. All components are working great now.
