ASUS Mobo USB 2.0 Problem

I built a PC for my friend recently. The motherboard is an Asus P4S800, which includes 6 USB ports on the mobo and 2 on the front panel connector.

I installed the USB 2.0 drivers on WinXP with service pack 1. In the device manager it lists 3 USB Root hubs as well as 3 other entries for the SIS USB drivers.

Any device plugged into the USB port will not work or be detected in any port (rear or front). I tried 3 devices (MS USB mouse, Logitech mouse, and a Sony Digicam).

On the motherboard there are 3 jumpers, for Wake on USB. I tried switching these jumpers to their other setting, and still no luck. I'm also positive that the front panel USB is properly connected to the mobo.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've found people have been having this problem alot, but no one seems to have a definate answer of how to fix it. I don't believe the motherboard had any drivers for the USB it was just using windows.

Are all the USBs activated in the BIOS? And no USB device is working, not even in the 2 USB plugs in the back of the mobo?

I could not find a single setting relating to the USB in the bios and I checked every page (multiple times). I've read around the WinXP with SP1 sometimes flips out with USB 2.0 drivers.

None of the ports work. The mobo has 6 on the rear and 2 on the front panel. None do anything with any devices.

First try this: unplug your case's front-USB wiring from the mobo's internal header, and double-check the rear I/O panel to make sure that none of the springy finger things have gotten into the USB jacks and are shorting them out.

edit: by the way, you might want to add "P4S800" to your title to grab the attention of any P4S800 owners

I would check microsoft's website for new service packs or updates. I had to load service pack 4 for windows 2k to get usb 2.0 to work. It's a problem with sis chipsets, not your motherboard.

I had similiar problems with several sis chipset mobos. Step one is to clear the bios, then enter it to ensure that your settings are correct, modifiying any from the defaults to what you need. Make sure the USB is enabled, and supporting 2.0 if shown in your bios, and make sure "Legacy" (probably spelled wrong!) USB support is disabled. then boot into Winblows. Insert the CD that came with your mobo, and exit the installation program if it starts. Then open the Device manager (right click on My Computer, select Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager button). Under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers entry at the bottom you'll have something like:

Standard (or Enhanced) XxxxxxxXXX USB controller, or PCI to USB Host controller

There are likely to be 3 entries, with 2 of them identical - it's the odd one out. Open it, select the Driver tab, and the update driver button. Make sure the update will search the CD, and it should find the correct driver instead of the default MS one. As I recall you have to reboot, new hardware found runs automatically, and boom, you've got USB 2 support.
