Asus memory leaks, please mention this in your next review

I have no problems with the AI suite, other than the clunky interface. My system has about 3 days of uptime at the moment and my atkexComSvc.exe is using about 145mb. I don't see a problem.

The service uses 5-6 MB after reboot, try restarting it. Let it run a couple weeks and watch it grow to 1-2 GB

AI suite also increases your dpc latency to above 1000 which can cause sound or video stuttering performance problems.

Yes, but the problem is, other brands are not that much better. Either it looks like shit or it works like shit, or both. Guess the first option is still preferable. Now sure it would be nice if reviews would mention all this but lets face it, most are very superficial and nothing but click magnets. Mentioning every single problem might also cut of future hardware supply. There's a ton of threads about problems with Corsair Link software, to the point where it kills hdd's, but every review calls the software great.

Yep I agree; not like ASUS is much worse than its competition, and I like ASUS' hardware engineering far more than any of their competition, and would instantly recommend an ASUS mobo to anyone who asked me. Along with the advice: DON'T INSTALL AISUITE!

I see where the file is located on my hard drive, but even with AI Suite running, I don't see atkexConSvc running in Task Manager.

EDIT: figured it out - in task manager you have to have the "Show processes from all users" box in the lower left checked. Ok, now it shows up as 1,572K. I will watch it and see if it grows. Also found this: http://dyslexicanaboko.blogspot.com/2012/09/asus-com-service-atkexcomsvcexe-memory.html

I leave AI Suite running, mostly for fan control and BIOS updates, but memory leaks just don't worry me. I'm running Win 7 64-bit with 8GB of memory, and very rarely do I have less than 4GB free. MS makes me reboot at least once a month for updates, which probably resets AI Suite usage.

The people who complain about memory leaks in other software seem to be mostly heavy users of Adobe products, which I am not, so maybe it really makes a difference in their lives.

Virtu actually replied my ticket a while ago, and requested I download the latest version first. After pointing me to the wrong download and then to the right one when I complained, I replied after a few days that the memory leak persisted. Never got a reply, tried to reach them a few more times, nothing, complete silence.

I wish anandtech would cover these things in their reviews and maybe encourage users NOT to buy again until these brands get responsible about their products and support.

Well, it has been known for years that Asus has some of the worst support in the industry. Asus does so well because their hardware is generally very good. Has been for years.

Heck, not even everyone in this little thread is seeing the same problems as you. Besides, I don't think a casual mention on one tech site will make them do anything to change that.

That's the way I do everything on my Gigabyte, and for said functions they (Gigabyte) have some of the most outdated software you will see on a modern computer. But then again, my board was a lot less expensive than the Asus boards being mentioned, and I knew that going in. As long as people know the Asus software has these issues going into the purchase, no huge deal. But speaking for myself, this is the first I have heard of this.

I have not had this issue myself. Currently using ai suite/turboV to oc my phenom II, no issues. Bios overclock for my i7 in a p8z77-v pro. With uefi bios being a standard now you have no excuse. Unless you're lazy, in which case I give you a pass

Been inclined to really do that, remove all this crap and use only bios, although the controls in the ai suite are nice and handy and I'm not sure everything is available through bios. Changing fan setup at will with fan xpert etc is also nice, sometimes I want a more quiet environment.

For virtu however there's no alternative, I need it for QuickSync, unless I'm missing some other way to enable it..

I shut my units down after use, I have used a patch for the AI suite(not sure if it helped) on my P8P67 EVO.
Couldn't you just schedule a regular dump, to clean out that folder? Seems like your here for other things than to find a solution, I have no issue with the software and I have the RIVE, P8PP67 EVO, and Z77 Thunderbolt.

I have seen similar threads like this, and usually they turn into a mob. I do see your point, they also have the BEST high end overclocking boards in the world. And when someone buys these to use with LN2, they toss out the software disk it came with first. I have had zero issue's with there customer service's, and I have RMA'D a few boards with them.
