Asus Maximus SE Watercooling - Help Please.

Hi there,

I have been using the Asus Maximus SE motherboard and now want to go for watercooling. I have seen many threads including the ones here, at Anandtech. But I am confused and honestly failed at doing it so here I ask you experts for help.

I want to use the stock fusion block on my motherboard and don't want to replace any other part as I don't want to fiddle with the warranty. Also want to keep things less expensive. Hence my questions are;

1) What all parts do I need for watercooling this motherboard?

2) If I watercool the motherboard, do I need to Watercool the CPU as well? In that case again, what parts do I need?

I would much appreciate if anybody gives me the procedure to install all these parts and get the complete watercooling system running. Also if anybody has also done this, could you please put some pics? Thanks very much guys.

Cheers

Have you read Aigo''s sticky? If not do so, there are many photos as well as good instruction. You''ll need to research a good deal and come back at us with more detailed questions, normally you would cool the cpu first, using stock cooling on the board. Add cooling to the NB, and mofsets / vregs after if you need it for a higher, more stable OC.

Edited for understanding, (I confused myself!)

u need roughly 80 dollars to cool just that chipset and a considerable amount of space.

Are you sure you want to watercool it? Putting a fan on that big copper area might be a better gain then watercooling your chipset.

That kit is good but I'm not sure how that block will handle the new chips. It should be ok because the 45nm chips are cooler to begin with.
This would be my suggestion for a first kit. It has a better block and will cover a quad if you change chips or systems, the pump comes with a custom top and has a higher flowrate and greater head than the 655.

Cheers WoodButcher. But I live in London and I am not able to find Petra'sTech CoolKit Elite. I don't think resellers here stock it. Hence what would be the next best possible option?

I was having a look at Cooler Master Aquagate Max. Has anybody used it? how is it considering it is quite compact and looks cool.

Guys,

I m getting Swiftech H2O-220 Compact on ebay very cheap for £60 ($90). How does this kit compare with Swiftech H2O-220 Ultra? Pleasse reply asap as I am buying it from an auction.

Cheers.

Thanks WoodButcher 🙂

Actually the guy selling this has used this for just 2 weeks and then got a case whith preinstalled watercooling (atleast thats what he puts). He is even giving the invoice. He has replaced the original fans with 2 x Noctua NF-P12 fans. For £65 including shipping I thought that was a bargain.

I actually read some reviews which gave it a thumbs up. Also they claimed this cooling systems was good for noobie like me. Aigo, please help me if there is pump problem as WoodButcher suggests.

Thanks a million guys

Sorry WoodButcher, I just had to buy it as I got it dirt cheap ($90 including p&P) + the two Noctua NF-P12 fans which replaced the stock ones. I would like to thank you and Aigo for all your advice and help, although I really hoped for an early reply from Aigo over my previous query. But I know he should be really busy and hence thanks guys for you time to help out this noob.

Cheers

Always welcome, glad to help if I can,I'm pretty sure Aigo is in the middle of a new project. From what I recall there were a couple of people that had complaints when it was first released, noise from the pump IIRC. Good price you got, $90 US? I would have paid that.

sorry if ive been out of the thread for a while.

Been preping a very big project. :

for 90 the compact kit isnt so bad. Its a good entry level, but a real custom kit would be recomended.

Since you already bought the compact kit, study how it works.

Then when your ready for an upgrade step up.

Aigo's back! Yayy!! 🙂

Yes $90 (£65) including p&p is actually quite good for UK standards considering we pay crazy taxes her. The kit here was available for lowest priice of $200 (£127) at an etailer. THe seleer had also replaced the original fans with 2 x Noctua NF-P12 fans. For that price, the complete setup was a steal and too lucrative.

Actually I also thought about saving some money and hence went for the compact kit. I really hope it would be sufficient for my CPU and the motherboard fusion block system. I don't intend to use it for VGA though, no point in heating the already hot 4870 X2, even in crossfire mode. As Aigo suggested, I would go for an upgrade once I get my entire system watercooled.

Will use and keep you guys updated on how it goes. Thanks to everybody who helped and especially Aigo and WoodButcher. You guys are gems 🙂

Cheers

noctuna fans suck..

and i dont mean that in a pun sense either.

There horrible on a radiator. :X

I would recomend you getting some better fans for that rad.

Yate Loom makes great fans, Zalman F series fans are also great.

My personal favorate are slightly thicker then normal fans called scythe Ultra Kaze's, There 38mm.

My ultimate favorate, but very expensive, and very hard find is the sanyo denki sanace.

Anyways, will they harm my system in any ways or decrease the performance drastically? if yes in what way? If they are quite harmful, I will sell them off on ebay. Else, I will keep them for the time being to save some money and go for the Zalman F series when I upgrade my watercooling system.

Cheers

yes...

They can cuz they wont provide the static pressure you need.

When looking at fans you need to throw out everything u thought about regular fans. Your not looking for CFM anymore, your looking for static pressure.

My Pal Vapor on XS did this nice review, its good reading when your bored. Teaches you the basics on fan.

Thanks Aigomorla 🙂 Would replacing them with stock fans be any good? Atleast I can save money that way.

Super articles there I am actually reading all of them:

Yes it does show Noctua doesn't live up to the hype. I'll keep the stock ones for now and sell off the N 12 on Ebay. At least I am not losing out on anything, those were additional fans anyways.

Cheers Aigo.
