Hi guys.

I bought MATRIX-HD7970-P-3GD5 and it worked for some time but then i tried underclock and undervoltage (because PC was shutting down during furmark stresstest due to weak PSU 400W) the card using GPUTweak2 (from asus site). PC run for longer but it again shut down and then it didnt boot. Well it did boot but acting like there is no GPU and monitor signal was coming from integrated gpu. Now when i start computer, 7970 light up (the matrix title on card is purple) but computer dont see this card. I changed the old PSU for 650w psu but it is still same. Any ideas?

Is there any way to reset bios or something?

Also, can anybody help with manual for this card? I cant find nothing on asus site and i dont have the cd and the guy who sold it to me is not answering.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There is usually no manual that comes with a video card, other than what may come in the box. What exactly do you need it for?

As far as power, a 550-watt or greater was recommended for that card when it came out. How long have you had the card? When you bought it from "the guy," was it new?

Your system was probably giving you issues due to insufficient power, and clocking it down would help some, but not enough. The card is still going to run full speed during POST and some of the boot process, so a Windows utility wouldn't help there.

Also, these cards are going on 5 years old. I don't know how long you had it, and how old it may have been when you bought it, but it is possible the card was damaged when you bought it, or the card was damaged by running for so long on insufficient power.

What model is the 650-watt power supply you have in it now? Did you buy it new?

Hi and thanks for reply.

Well i hoped there is manual that explains how exactly buttons and switch (and what does this switch do) on the card works. When to press it and for how long, etc... I was thinking maybe there is some way to reset bios or something (but that should do safe mode button?).

I have the card for about a week now and it was secondhand.

Yeah. I was aware i have weak psu but i tried the card anyway while waiting for better psu. In games it can run for something like 15 minutes so i thought if i underclock it as much as possible, maybe it wont shut down. There was never any problem during POST until the underclocking.

Im prety sure card was ok when i bought it, so probably the latter.

The psu is 600 (not 650, my bad) zalman zm600-gsII and it is new.

Gotcha. I did find some info on the buttons over here:
http://www.legitreviews.com/asus-matrix-hd-7970-platinum-video-card-review_2068
Take note that ASUS also has a BIOS switch, but it it not a BIOS switch. It changes the vBIOS display output functionality allowing for a 6-way Eyefinity setup (2 single links) or a 5-way (single link and dual link). Differences in display resolution will occur to the DVI ports under this configuration.

At the end of the PCB you’ll see that ASUS has placed their ”TweakIt’ technology on the actual PCB, so you can adjust hardware voltage in real-time as well as turning the fan speed up to 100%. By pressing the ‘+’ or ‘-” button you adjust the GPU
core voltage up to +0.125V in 10 jumps ranging from 1.270V to 1.335V. This is great for
overclocking as you can be running a benchmark and if you start to see artifacts or issues you can just click these buttons for more or less power.

The ‘safe mode’ button is one that is seldom used when things are going right, but saves your butt when crap hits the fan. By pushing this button it resets the
graphics card back to the default clock frequencies and voltages! Think
of it like a clear CMOS button for a motherboards BIOS. This switch is a
life-saver as it keeps you from possibly bricking the card during an
extreme overclock. Enthusiasts and overclockers will certainly
appreciate this feature as it takes some of the worry out of
overclocking, so you can focus on having fun. Above those three buttons you have the 100% fan speed turbo button. This button puts the fans at 100% power with just a click of a button. There are also 10 LED lights to show you how far you’ve increased the voltage.
