I recently bought a cheap eVGAe GeForce 7200GS 256MB video card to get me by for a while. It is PCI-express X 16. I have discovered that the technician who sold it to me installed an eVGAe GeForce 7100GS 256MB which is PCI Express only. My main board which is an ASUS P5GC-MX and has a PCI express X 16 slot. I have a limited understanding of PCI so my dumb question is: Surely I am not going to get the performance that I paid for considering that the board that I got is only PCI express? Did I get gouged?

NVM I understand, so you bought a 7200 and got a 7100? Go get your card/money back!

You got the wrong card so that's worth complaining about. PCI-E slots can run at various speeds, 16x being the highest. The videocard is merely a PCI-Express part, the slot it goes in determines the interface speed. So don't worry although I would do something about getting the card you paid for.
