Hello,
I have a ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3 and CPU Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition with socket AM3. Now I liked the CPU AMD FX-4350 and I can buy one and put it. What you think.

Well, since I had this wonderful experience putting in a next-gen CPU into a board that ASUS even said was supported with a BIOS update but didn't work, I'm inclined to say don't bother trying.

I've got the same board as you so I would like to know if you do try it, but nothing beyond the Bulldozers are on the CPU support list for that board.

p.s. With the 3027 revision of the bios of asus is working properly.

Do you mean that you've tried that AM3+ processor you were interested in and it worked?

I remember seeing that notice regarding the board we both use a couple of years ago, but since the experience I already mentioned and the fact that no newer AM3+ CPUs are mentioned in the support list, I would be surprised if newer processors worked.

Look what it says on the website of the manufacturer:

Jechko,

your motherboard does indeed support AM3+ processors, namely the Bulldozer models, however the FX-4350 is one of the new Piledriver models and according to the CPU Support List, it only goes up to the Bulldozer CPU's.

Now, given that ASUS may have disregarded updating said list, your best bet would be to contact them to determine whether the latest BIOS does support the FX-4350, but I would not get my hopes high and likely, the motherboard does not accept the new models at all.

Also IIRC I remember reading that even with BD processors that support on this board was a bit shaky - also problems with Turbo mode or voltage/CnQ, can't remember exactly.

I wrote to the support of asus and wait for response.

Please update this thread when you find out. I have this board with a 960T I am putting together for my friend. I found a 8120 for sale and was thinking about getting it for this board, but not if the beta support is shaky. It's a pretty sweet motherboard though.

The response will be either "Please see our CPU support list" or "it's not on the CPU support list" or a combination of the two.

This is the response from the support team. Not what I expected but ...

Dear Jechko,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is John and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.

I've checked the CPU support list and didn't find the FX-4350 in the page:
http://support.asus.com.cn/cpusupport/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=24&m=M4A89TD PRO/USB3&os=&hashedid=fLIjRELzxMxkH2UQ
Suggest you use the CPU in our CPU support list since we have tested them and can ensure it's compatibility.

Welcome to refer Troubleshooting & FAQ for ASUS products in ASUS website:

If you continue to experience issues in the future, please do not hesitate

to contact us.

Best Regards,
John

What do you suggest I do?

p.s. What do you suggest I do?

1. Forget the whole idea of upgrading to an FX processor. Either upgrade to a faster Ph2 with your board or do a more substantial upgrade to Ivy Bridge.

or

2. Buy the FX processor and ebay it if it doesn't work properly.

or 2 then 1

You're going to write to AMD? They'll direct you straight back to your motherboard manufacturer.

another option is to try the cpu in your board with the updated bios and if it doesn't work upgrade to an AM3+ board.

Did you see my post above? As long as KingFatty is not lying it will work :p

If you think it's an 890GX/FX issue, further confirmation that Vishera works on ASUS 890FX (scross down to infrared's post): http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?252772-ASUS-AMD-Beta-BIOS-Releases/page53

Punisher in same thread claims he has 8350 working on m4a89td pro/usb3 (same board as mine, too, that's why I have all this research already done)

Sweet. Thanks for the info, I may sell the 960T and find a used FX cpu. Do you plan on installing a Piledriver CPU soon?

I don't see a reason to upgrade from my PhII. I do own an FX-6300 but I'm too lazy to test it out :p I think the 6300 is a decently better chip, though not worth $120 for what you get vs a PhII. Not really interested in 8 cores.

I hear ya. I trying to help out a buddy of mine who doesn't upgrade often so an 8-Core would be the way to go for him I think. I was just gonna overclock the 960T to 4.0Ghz/2.8NB and call it a day. if I decide to do a FX 8-Core, I will update this thread with the results.

If you do, please do that. The 8-core is def. more futureproof, and my hope is that as the process improves maybe with some more steppings and by the time steamroller comes around I will upgrade all my stuff to uber-cheap 8350's (unless steamroller is am3+). Btw I wish I had a zosma :p

I agree. I love this Zosma - Takes about 1.4v to hit 4.0Ghz. I am pretty sure it will hit 4.1 or 4.2Ghz. Won't unlock though :( Still very capable gaming chip
