My PATA hard drive useto shut down then restart during bootup 'til I changed over to SATA drives. Dunno if it happens on those SATA drives as well but I can't tell or hear if it does as it did with the PATA drive.

Well if you can't wait 6 mo. to a year to let things shake out a bit, then you should expect (and really enlisted for it) to take an arrow or two. Almost nobody really NEEDS an AMD 64 right now ...
. And it's been a long time since there have been any real problems with VIA chipsets or their drivers - quit living in the past. I fully expect the new KT880 (dual channel DDR) to take a big chunk off the top of the Athlon XP/Duron market. As it has been up to now, there is no real alternative to VIA in the AMD market for folks who are serious about their computing (ECC and/or Registered memory support).

Well here is my K8V experience.

I ordered the board with a 3200+ and 2x512MB Mushkin Level 1 PC3200. At first I could not even get the motherboard to recognize the configuration. I updated the bios but now the machine wont stay stable for more than a couple hours.

Also, Even after updating the bios, my HD still reboots on startup. I am RMA'ing the board monday.

To Fix the HD reboot at startup place all HDs on Second IDE ... not first....

My A64 3000+, corsair TWINX1024-3200LL memory ( 2x512 pc3200), and a Giga-byte GA-K8VNXP has worked flawlessly ever since I put it together.

Just figured I'd throw my a64 experience into the mix 🙂

I wouldn't keep it either if you couldn't put a drive on the primary. Some of us may want to run a bunch of drives and need to use the primary. I wonder how much K8V's have that problem. My boot drive is on the SATA and I have a storage drive on the primary. I wouldn't know if my board had that problem.

My Setup:

IDE 1 Master : DVD Burner
IDE 2 Master : 120gb "OS/Apps Drive"
Raid "Promise" Controller : 160gb Storage Drive

I have had no problems, stable and my system files...
