hi all,
i've got an A64 system w/ asus K8V in an Antec SLK3700-BQE (350W Smartpower PSU)

System was built in feb 04. A month ago the +3.3 V would drop to 2.95 or so, which got me worried.
Anyhow I didn't think much of it and lowered the threshold in the Asus monitor to about 2.9 V.

Now yesterday the machine refuses to boot. It does power up and through the speakers the bios says "CPU not in operating condition" or something like that. I think it's got to do with the PSU... what should I do?? Should I try putting in another PSU?

Btw, what's this 12VATX special connector from my PSU that goes into the mobo? Shouldn't it need only the one bigger connection from the PSU?

thanks
marc

No, there are two connections for newer motherboards. The main (larger) connector and the 12v (rail).

If you are not using both of those connections, that is probably your problem.

Almost all new power supplies have both connections. I think the seperate 12v rail is called ATX 2.01 or something like that (if it says that it is P4 compatible, it has the seperate 12V rail).

The ATX12V cable is mandatory.

Now, what are you using to determine the voltages? An actual voltmeter, or just software? Because a voltmeter is the real thing, software is the wannabe (and that goes double for Asus Probe  ). If you've got a digital multimeter, get it out and do a reality check here ;) A complete spec list could also help.

Actually yes, i'm using software, asus probe. It can't be that far off...

I guess i'll just bring in my computer for repair, i don't want to mess with it too much :)
