Asus K8V best RAM configuration

I built the March, 2004 "Cutting Edge" system with the Asus K8V motherboard. What preplexed me is that it had only 3 RAM slots instead of 4. Also, two of them are color yellow and one blue (not sure why). I want to know what the best possible configuration (without comprimising speed) for having the most amount of RAM on this motherboard is.

I've had trouble finding 1 GIG chips. One option would be to buy the 2 GB PC3500 from OCSystems: http://www.ocsystem.com/2gbpc43.html

I've had no experience with their RAM however, and stability is definitely a must.

I also wanted to know if there would be any performance hits if I got three PC3500 CORSAIR 512MB XMS Extreme Platimum series chips. I read somewhere that the two yellow colored RAM slots read at a faster rate than the blue colored memory slot. Can anyone shed some light on this?

If you run 3 x 512MB sticks of memory you won't be able to run it @ it's default speed of PC3200.

You can either install
2 x 512MB PC2700 (or higher) or
3 x 512MB PC2100

The K8T800 chipset won't support 3 double sided sticks of Mem @ PC2700 or higher as for yellow and blue memory slots according to the manual it's suggested to be the first memory slot you should install memory into which is why it's blue.

Reference Pg. 2-12 & 2-13 of the manual
