ASUS, K8N4-E Deluxe

Did a search for a motherboard that would allow me to keep my still respectable S754 3400+ clawhammer and enable me to upgrade to PCI-E and turned this up. Newegg has it for 104.00. This board is a startling discovery for me, and I'm surprised I've never heard hide nor hair about it before. Does anyone have any experience with it? I'm on a MSIK8N Neo at the moment, which has been nothing short of stellar for me, but this new board carries all the same features but upgrades to NF4 as well as PCI-E. 'm sure I'm not alone...

I used this board for quite a while with a bfg 6600gt oc, S754 3400+ clawhammer and 1gig (2 x 512) corsair value select. I never tried over clocking, but it was rock solid. I now have an egva 7800gtx ko acs3 and its still just a solid. I've heard it's a good overclock board, although I'm not yet comfortable with overclocking (simply because I feel I haven't learned enough yet).
But otherwise, I get great frame rates, no random reboots, and no system lockups. Mobo temps never exceed 32c idle/40c load, cpu temps at 30c idle/40c-ish load using Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu.
The only issues I'ev had are sound related. Most drivers seem to have a low volume level with a fairly noticable high pitch hum at higher volumes. the unofficial 6.67 mobo driver set fixed that, and the speakers sounded great, plenty of volume. Except when playing games: they sounded a tiny bit distorted and eventually the right channel went. Reinstalled old audio drivers and fixed it though. I haven't really messed with it much though and I'm sure there's an acceptable, if not easy, fix available. I don't get much tweak time =(
I'd still buy the board again if I had it to do over though, in a heart beat. I recommend!

I have been using this motherboard since june 2005 and i cant say enough good things about it.It has been a dream to use.Never had any problens with it.It o/clocks very well, not dfi o/clocks but reasonable ones.it is stable as a rock.i replaced the chipset fan once cause i read they were failing on all the asus nforce boards.called asus and they mailed me the new designed one.i modded the old heatsink by putting on a 40mmx 20mm fan on it and it works great, temps range from 33c-40c.never have seen them any higher.the board id loaded with extras.8 sata ports,raid,ide,8 channel sound.i have run bios 1003- 1007,never had any issues with any of them.1007 is rock solid.cool and quiet work great.I bought off ebay an amd 4400 x2 heatsink with the heatpipes and it cools great.idle temps are 28-30c/load temps 36-39c.the only quirk i can think of is ram runs 333 if all slots are takeni run 2/512 sticks of corsair at 3200 and settings are
2.5 3 3 8..i would run 1 gig sticks if i had it to do over again.well i honestly cant think of any reason not to use this board, unless you are going to overclock insanely, then dfi would be you best bet.but for reasonable o/clocks and normal use you cannot beat it.
I paid 116.00 for it in june but now its a bargainat newegg for 89.00,so order it up and check it out first hand......................bye

Lowest I saw was 38 fps in one part of the UT2004 DM-Tensilesteel map.

For me the latest audio driver did the trick. I only updated the BIOS to 1006 because I read something about the 1007 I couldn't figure out. (Does it mean you can't reformat later? Don't know.)

I did replace the northbridge chipset fan with a Zalman NB47J. I must say while gaming with BF2, the side fan makes a difference. But, I might get a Coolermaster (model with mesh front) case later on and place a good 120 mm fan in the front. I've seen 90 fps in BF2 demo with medium settings and 1 GB of RAM. I really wonder what I could hit with more RAM and a faster video card.

I'm happy. I like the fact you also have Firewire and MIDI port (want to connect Casio piano to it later).
