Hey all,

was reading the topic on the asus k8n-e review and figured you guys could help me.

I am running the k8n-e board, the 64 3000+ processor, 2 sticks of OCZ 512mb, a sata hard drive, thermal take lanfire case (great cooling) 9600XT video card, i've benchmarked my computer and its 3800 on pcmark and i read about people with my setup and they are 4800-5200 or more, the boot time isnt too nice either, POST has some sort of crap to run and it seems to take a while to even bring up the windows xp loading screen, however when that comes up it loads quickly,

i have just installed the cool 'n' quiet driver and software now im rebooting to enable it, im running the 1004 bios version

any help is GREATLY appreciated

thanks
-Andrew

whats happening with other benchmarks, what is your memory set to (mutliplier and timings), what do you have htt set at? Just giving one benchmark and saying you are getting less then you expected doesnt help that much, give a bunch give a list of settings/drivers.. Also installing cool and quite will most likely hurt your benchmark (as it will take a little time to get to speed) though it will probably increase processor life.

also asus takes a while to post because of the onboard sata raid, (silicone image based not nvidia), if you disable that it will probably boot faster but you realy have to measure boot time from when windows starts, as the time it takes for mobo to load features is processor independent

sorry,
i havent changed anything to manual nor tried to overclock yet, im having a hard enough time getting to perform without overclocking, the one thing im unsure of is my 300W power supply, i am not having any instability or anything its just 4 minute boot times, terrible benchmarks,

im running bios 1004
i have lanrom disabled,
silicon image disabled

i used bios update to flash my bios so im not sure if something got corrupted,

my HD is also being recognized as third primary IDE which im not sure is right,

my ram clocks are set to default at 2.5 cas,

my drivers are the latest ones from the asus site which besides the bios i think are the same version as the cd.

but coming from my xp 2600 i've noticed a performance Decrease which is very disappointing, i usually run MSI boards and decided to pay 190CND for this board and i've got nothing but problems so far.

i really appreciate your help, let me know any setting you need to know and i'll get it as fast as i can

actually, you can RAID using the nvidia sata too, i believe. and how do you disable the Silicon raid anyways?
the silicon raid is just an "extra" i think, also you can do fancy stuff you can't do on the nvidia, like RAID 5, etc.

all stuff i'll never use anyways ;)

hey, you said you had a 300W psu. that`s pretty suspicious. hows the 12v rail on it?

check the sticker on the psu and ... just type everything it says. could be a too-low combined 5v + 3.3v too.

im on a 350w right now to test, the boot time was a ton faster, i didnt see any benchmark changes, although i did overclock it to 2.2 and boosted my ram and i got a 4100 on the pcmark

dont know how good that is, i know a friend with an xp 2500 got a 3600

try to get a 400+ watt one from a major brand (antec, enermax, ocz, thermaltkae, pc power and cooling) that should help. Also i know th at their is nvidia sata raid on the board but the silicone image one is the one that slows boot time which is why i said disable that one.
