Asus K8N-E, NVIDIA Firewall Problems

Hi there,

I'm unable to successfully configure the native firewall on my Asus K8N-E using the NVIDIA Network Access Manager. Attempting to change security profiles gives the following error:

Error in FwlProfiles Set : Unable to find profile.

Using the Network Access Manager included with the K8N-E's software I was at least able to select and define one of the 'custom' profiles. After upgrading to all latest drivers and software on the Asus site, it is effectively stuck in the 'Anti-Hacking' profile and I can't even select a custom profile without generating the above error.

Additionally, the command-line utility documented in the user manual isn't even included in any of the installs.

Does anyone know a way around these problems? My setup isn't anything extraordinary - just a clean install of WinXP SP2 on my Athlon64 3000+. I really would like to use the native firewall and it looks very powerful. If only the tools were in a usable state.

I had the same EXACT problem. I uninstalled the network access manager that I installed from the Asus disc, then I downloaded the network management tool from the Asus download page. It works on all the settings now...
 
Hmm, NVSU (Network management tools) 4.42 as available on the Asus download page doesn't work for me either. I don't think it's a hardware problem because if I look at the logs, I can see packets being filtered (to whatever criteria the Anti-Hacking setting specifies). I suppose it could have something to do with SP2 though.
 
Try different LAN drivers. I know for sure that it can work on sP2 because I have it up and running no problem. My driver version is 4.4.2.0, if that helps at all..
 
Personally, I don't think the nv hardware firewall is quite ready for prime-time yet, in terms of its software implementation.

Maybe wait for 1-2 months for a few more software revisions?

I doubt they've even updated it yet to take SP2 into account. Didn't most other firewall/security-related software need updates to take into account the various "changes" of SP2?
 
the nvidia networking controller device drivers control the hardware firewall. Windows Security Center in SP2 can't pick it up because of that, but if your internet works, then the hardware firewall should be able to...
 
Download and install the latest driver set from Nvidia. Their driver contains a bug free version of the Firewall Management tool. On the other hand, the ethernet driver in their package is a problem.

Did you try uninstall the Network Access Manager software first? First, go to add/remove program and remove the NVIDIA ForceWare Network Access Manager. Reboot if you want. After that, run the nForce installer you download from Asus or NVIDIA.com.

i am having the same issue with my k8n-e deluex and im running windows xp pro sp1 so it can't be that. i would like to know where i have to go to find the drivers and software you are all speaking about i have searched the nvidia site. 😕 🙂
 
I am having the same problems as well.

I am not able to turn off the firewall, and it is is stuck in the medium setting. I cannot change the profile, and the fireall is blocking all port 520 traffic. That is RIP traffic which is kinda useful behind a router. So essentially it is buggered. I am unistalling the Netwrok mangement software and going to reinstall them.




Sure would be nice of NVIDIA to give individual drivers instead of the unified ones!
 
UPDATE:

I just unistalled the the Network Management Software, and installed the software form ASUS's site. Now I reinstalled the the Mangement software and specifically told it not to install the forewall stuff. That seems to have taken care of the issue (at elast it seems so now). My network response time is already wuicker.

I don't know what to say other than try unistalling and reinstalling the software if you want to keep using the firewall portion. I think thats pretty crappy work form Nvidia hope they fix it in the future.


I don't see hwo SP2 would be culprit here as they're is no software that directly affects the nvidia ehternet device. SP2 doesn't even contain drivers for it.
 
same problem here too but countless re-installs, and a bios update...and now it seems to have gone away and it workin properly but before it used to have all kinds of error messages....in fact it had one before the browser window appeared telling me a load slashes and dashes that i never really understood and then it would always say profile not found

but seems to have fixed it self now so im happy

but i think event ho it tells u it cant find the profile......it still works, i remember picking lock down an it said profile not found...but when i went to go on the net i got nothing so it seems to be working regardless

There is no such thing as bug free software.
