ASUS K8N-E Delux Just installed CPU fan turns and stops as a light flashes
New Antec 480 PSU New Ram Athlon 64 3200
I tried my Old antec 300w PSU does the same thing.

on the wire from the start button to the mother board power, I put the white lead to the power side and the green one to the ground side of the power connector leading to the 2 power terminals on the MOBO.

I faced the CPU writing the same way as the socket writing and a yellow L on the motherboard , I did not notice a small triangle on the mother board any place (but it was by a night light.)

I need Help.

I double checked the position I placed the athlon into the mother board and the instructions and photo from AMD it was correct the way I installed it?

Any suggestions what to check?
This mother board requires 2 power plugs the 24 pin and anothewr 4 pin one. So when I check it with my Ald antec power supply I cannot check for the 4 pin plug just the 24 one since it does not have that plug at all.

I have the power wires from the power button correctly placed white on the power side and green on the ground side... I grounded myself when installing the motherboard and peripherals to the ground of my electric system so I could not have blown anything with static.

Corsair memory chip[s come with a plastic retainer with a metal clip to pervent blowing them with static charge, do I remove that after installing the Ram sticks? or leave them on> could that be a reason for the power not turning on?

Do not try to power it without the other power connector. It would help if you give the full specs of the system. Every card, every item.

Don't take the heatspreaders off the Corsair either. Void warranty, if nothing else :Q

Corsair 512 -3200c2 2 each
ATI AIW 9700 Video card
Athlon 64 3200+ with AMD rec0ommended heatsinc and fan it came with.
Antec true Blue 480 PSU
Asus K8n-E Delux Mothrboard
I have 2 red wires in their plastic bags numbered 14-000107071 and inside a triangle on the bag it says 04 and under the triangle it reads PE-LD these are not connected now. Should they be? I think they are for special peripherals which may connect to the 2 plugs on the motherboard black 1/2 inch wide and 1/16th of an inch high plug connectors.
One floppy
one new DVD burner on the secondary Master plug with 40 wires it came with
a CD rom 48 times secondary slave
2 hard drives on the motherboard one 100 mhz 40gig primary slave and one Primary 160 gig Master.
I have no other PCI cards in now.
I hope that gives you ideas, I surely need them.

Turn off (disable) the Cool N' Quiet mode in the CPU configuration menu in the bios.

Also turn off(disable) the Smart Q-FAN Function in the Hardware Monitor section of the bios.

I've been finding that these two options havce been causing me a lot of issues with this motherboard. Specificly a combination of the two cause my CPU fan to not turn on properly..or to turn on for only a short period of time then slow down and stop! :( both are bad. :p

Hope that helps.

BTW: does your system continue to load even though CPU fan is not turning? I know mine did!! :( scared the heck out of me the first time I realized my CPU fan had stopped turning! :p

upddate-

Your asking me what I had connected gave me an Idea

I disconnected all drives other than floppy and WOW!!! power turned on so I added one hard drive withwin 2000 pro on it from my other setup. I got a blue scresn and it said to make sure I had no viruses and such.I will try and reinstall win 2k on that drive or restore a backup
One reason I upgraded is that my old system would not let me install win 2k pro It could not fid the hard drive to put it on. Strange because Fdisk would see it but win 2k settup would end when that point came, it would find small unknown partitions too tiny for win2k pro and that I never partitioned into the hard drives. It did that with any hard drive I tried. So I assumed my CPU was bad since its fan failed. I did have it running with a 12 inch home fan blowing on it, and then it would not work when I got a replacement fan for the CPu heatsink.

These 2 problems promptyed me to upgrade and try again, which I may do now, but I will wait for your input, before trying either a fresh install on a hard drive or a refresh of the win2k pro and instalation of the new drivers.

Thanks a lot, TungFree and Orillian. This solution worked for me.

Turn off (disable) the Cool N' Quiet mode in the CPU configuration menu in the bios.

Also turn off(disable) the Smart Q-FAN Function in the Hardware Monitor section of the bios.
