Asus HD3850 256MB for $31

Out of stock now. Good thing too, because I was trying to order it. Glad I didn't.
 
Tell them to go through with it anyway. It'll be an interesting conversation piece at least.


1: Asus doesnt make GPU's
2: GPU's don't have 90 day warranties.
 
Well, it could also be a GPU for that one ASUS board. And that should explain why it has a 90 days warranty. Thing is... how can you test to see if the part works if you don't solder it?

Edit: Told them to do it anyway. At worst, I'll just hit up eBay, or I can return it to them, or I can just find a dead HD3850 and solder this one chip on. Doesn't hurt either way.

Taking them forever to reply now. Seems like they are being bombarded with emails... again. lol

That's what I was going to do if they didn't straight up and cancel my order (like they did!! :\)
 
Now I just need to find two dead HD 3850, I guess... or actually, I don't even think I have to. They are just trying very desperately to cover this up from what I can see. A $95 card for $31 is some serious loss. If I hadn't seen that $95.48 price, I would still be wondering what it was that they were trying to sell. Gee... it even had the 256M part before, but it seems they edited that one out on purpose. I wonder if they are going to just rip the GPU off of dead HD 3850 boards now.

Edit: Or hey, maybe they'll give me some random chip, and edge EXTREME AH3850/G/HTD on it. That'd make my lol day. I actually won't even give them hell if they pull something like that off. I'll even keep it as a momento... maybe put it on my monitor as a decoration or something.

yeah... i'd like to see how you're going to solder it on... it's a BGA chip...

for a bga chip... normally solder paste is silk screened on to a board, and then the chip is mechanically placed onto the board. and then maybe ran through an oven that has a heat profile design for this chip to have maximum wetting of the solder to the board and chip with the least amount of heat to prevent damage of the chip and de-lamination of the board. If they do send you just a chip, make sure that it's in a hermetically seal package with desicant.... otherwise you're going to destroy the chip when you heat it up because of all the water vapor that is inside the chip is going to expand when you heat it up to melt the solder.... solder is normally heated to a temperature that is around 400-600 degree C.... you can prepare the chip before hand by putting it in oven at 100C for 24hours (it's been a few years since i've done this.. I think that's correct) to evaporate any water vapor that is trapped in the chip.
 
Yeah, soldering this thing onto a board is not gonna happen, hate to tell you. But I'll be surprised as HELL if these guys actually have gpu's on hand. I'm pretty sure you can not get those unless you own a fab to make the cards... and I don't believe these guys do.
 
Hmm.. Go for it, or not... Go for it, or not... Their return policy clearly says if I return it within 10 days, I won't pay for restocking fee. So all my loss will be $ 8.50 shipping + $ 5 return shipping, but potential gain will be an actual HD3850. I don't know! Pull the trigger, or not.

its not even that cheap though...

you can go on ebay and get a used 3850 512mb for like $90 easily.


why spend $31 + $8 shipping for maybe the possibility of getting a 256mb chip. just give up.

Care directing me to which auction of HD 3850 512mb ended at $90? 🙂

And if it doesn't work out, I'll just lose $14 in total for shipping. Besides, I don't suppose shipping JUST a single chip will take $10. That and... there are plenty of reasons why this is more likely to be a complete card than just a single processing chip.

You're the man. I would so buy one myself, just to find out WTH they're going to send me. Too bad it's OOS. I hope you get the cards though. Write back for sure. And post some pics of "it" (if it's not the card).

Same email I got from the sister site early yesterday without offering me the option go to through with the order.

Generally, I think price mistakes are alright. But I'm pretty pissed at this company trying to cover their asses by lying.
 
I wonder if they canceled all orders? Because even though I did tell them to go through with it 'til the end, they canceled my order with "customer-requested" as the reason anyway. But if all orders are canceled, then they should have these back in stock, which doesn't happen.
 
This place is definitely on my don't shop at ever list now. I have no problem with price mistakes getting canceled. But a lie, and not even a good one, but a pretty outrageous one. Yeah, AaAC.
