asus granite bay.. can anyone spell $290 ??

I always use Newegg unless I "need it now" and go local and have been very pleased with them so far.
But this GB "fiasco" is ridiculous.
They had the Asus GB "Deluxe" OEM for $230.00 and retail for $229.00. Naturely they sold out quick, the listings then said due 2/11 and 2/12 for each of the above, with the same low prices listed. My local dealer had the Deluxe OEM for $239.00 (+tax) so I thought I'd wait for Newegg.
When the auto-notify came in I went to the site and suddenly the prices are marked up, $289.00 and $299.00? I understand "supply and demand" but I'm suprised. IMHO they are "price gouging" due to the popularity. I think they will find that the people who would snatch these up at $230.00 won't at $299.00

OK, so now I'll go local right? Opps, too late, sold out. But they did tell me that the boards will be the same price and are due in "10 days".

"this GB "fiasco" is ridiculous" - couldn't agree w/ you more! I just sold my 8INXP on Ebay last night for $30 more than I paid for it and I used it for 2 weeks. I honestly can't believe someone would pay that much $ for the board - it was good but, not that good. I found that it had a fair number of bugs especially w/ the AGP/PCI lock and it was terrible about sharing IRQ's.

I'm going back to my trusty old SIS648 and have already spent my (newly aquired) $285 on a 73GB U160 SCSI drive since SATA doesn't seem like it will EVER show up.

I bought a New and sealed Quantum 10k2 73 gig at 229 bucks from Bason 3 months ago...runs fast and great. Beside that... I am in ultra 160 and using a (Tekram DC390U3W) since April 2000. Not a bug ever with a Seagate. This is the best investment I ever did. I have a WD Firewire card with the TI chip that I use for video and external extra backup. The Supermicro Granite Bay is maybe plain but I do not need a Christmas tree. In the other hand, It comes with a Gigabit Lan Intel. Moreover, the Bios (I downloaded the manual) support power on using keyboard or mouse like asus. My Chieftech with a 480 true power has a door, we have kids and dog and I like to keep the case door close. By doing so, the power button is hiding behind. It seems a stupid detail but I appreciate this kind of feature. Supermicro are usually as stable as Intel board. We need more review on this board. It has an unpopular price. I think it is a hot board to buy now.

When you look at AMD Platforms vs Intel, you can build a significantly faster AMD machine for the same price you would pay for Intel. When I saw that I gasped. Whats even more freaky is that none of the GBs are under $220. And the Sis 655 boards look like they'll be only $30 or so cheaper. So while $180-190 for a mb is ridiculous, it looksl like a bargain when your comparing it to boards that are well over $200.

Good God.
