Asus G46vw GPU issue

Anyone ever have this issue with their laptop? My wife has had it for maybe 2 months and this just started last night when she logged into WoW. I tried reinstalling the video card driver and rolled it back a few days before the issue but no luck. Last night I started a full factory restore but I don't have any games on it to test to see if that fixed the issue.

Could it be the GPU overheated? I don't know how since we always keep it on a laptop tray with access to the vents.

Is it still in warranty? If it is, try talking to their support.

If not, I would disassemble and reapply some thermal paste.

How old is this laptop anyways?

We've had it for 2 months.

I just tried firing up WoW again after the factory restore, same issue.

My wife works with a guy that use to work for Best Buy. He said this model of Asus is notorious of having issues. He said customers would send them in for repaire only to have the same issue happen a couple of months later. If this is the case then I think we are going to raise hell at Best Buy and try to get our money back. I'm a premier silver card holder with them so maybe that will help with the whole process. I think the return policy is 60 day which would put us maybe 10-15 days over.

Well, good luck. Hope your wife doesn't miss too many Raids. 🙂

Lol ya, she wasn't to happy last night. She was really looking forward to gaming.

I think I've talked her into letting me build her a PC if we're able to return the laptop. She said "I want monitors like the ones I have at work.".......she has dual 24"s lol.

Older nvidia gpus maybe 5 years ago had a reputation for overheating and failing, but the GTX660m is a pretty common notebook gpu these days and shouldnt be too demanding. However, I looked up the laptop you mention, and it is a 14 inch model, which might have a hard time with gaming, although they tout its cooling abilities.

Anyway, if you cant return it to best buy, it should still be under factory warranty, so they should repair or replace it, although sending it back to the factory is a hassle. Do you get graphical corruption like that in everyday use or in other games, or is it just related to WOW?

Well my wife took it into Best Buy to try and get our money back. They said they would send it back to ASUS to have it repaired.

I tried other games besides WoW and still got the same results. I think once it gets returned she is going to try talking to a guy we know there about getting a refund again.

Good luck.

If you purchased it with a non best buy credit card, you might be able to get the money refunded through them.
