Asus EZ Plug and Cheating Intel

I ordered an Asus P4PE yesterday, and knowing that Intel utilized the new ATX standards for the P4, I also ordered a new 300W Sparkle Power PS.

Now, I see that the P4PE includes an Asus EZ Plug, allowing a regular drive power cable to be used in lieu of the 12V additional cable.

Is using this plug instead of the standard 12V connection okay? Will it perform the same function? Should I just use my old power supply (another 300W Sparkle :) ).

You can use your old sparkle ps if you want to. Only one of the 12 volt connectors needs to be used.

you can use all 3

some people over at CPU/OCing forum have proven that using all 3 plugs provides the best result in voltage flux

BDawg or anyone else. Have you since learned anything about the EZ plug and which combination of connections did you finally decide to use? I am having some voltage issues on my 420 power supply, and am trying to see if I need to disconnect one of the 3 or leave all plugged in.

I'm using the new power supply and its 12V plug.

IIRC,

With the old PS and the EZ Plug, I was at 11.8V.

With the new PS, 12V and EZ Plug, I was at 12.3V.

With the new PS, using only the 12V connector, I'm pegged at 12V.

Thabks BDawg. Would you mind sharing what your othr voltage levels are? I'm a little concerned about my 3.3V level, as it's only been as high as 2.9XX and I can't handle 3D processes. See my voltages for yourself, and please let me know how yours compare. Thanks!

Yikes, those 3.3 readings are nasty.

Here are my 3 readings from my 300W Sparkle PS (200W on the combined 3.3 + 5V)

EZ Plug Only

12V Only

Both

I may end up plugging both in. My numbers have changed since I installed the PS.

Maybe you should consider a new PS. I've gotten good results from Sparkle.

Thanks for taking the time swpping connections and posting screenshots - I really appreciate the comparison.

I put in an identical 420 Watt unit today and saw no improvement - the 3.3 voltage hovered at 2.9-3.0 V. So I put in a 500 Watt and now my figures are more consistent with yours: 3.28-3.04 V. Woohoo! Now I can finally play some 3D baby!

Thanks again for your help!
