ASUS EZ Flash 2 Can't See My USB Drive

Guys, i'm in spin cycle trying to flash my ASUS P5N-E SLI. Current ROM is 0602. Update I'm trying to apply is 1406.

I'm using a couple of 2gig thumb drives, same result. Formatted to FAT.

Downloaded the update.

Renamed the file with several variants based on conflicting info on forums-

a. kept the zip compressed and did not rename: 1406.zip
b. kept the zip compressed and changed the extension to ROM: 1406zip.ROM
c. extracted the file and got 1406.bin and kept it: 1406.bin
d. extracted the file and changed extension to .rom: 1406.rom

I go into the EZ Flash 2 utility and it shows an a: and a c:. Neither shows my files.

Can't tell if that's because it doesn't see my thumb drive or it sees it and doesn't show the files.

Saw a forum that suggested making it bootable, so went through that routine and same files and results as above.

Please help!

It doesn't matter whether a BIOS update is a .bin or .rom file, and Asus wouldn't supply 1406.BIN if it didn't work. Here's a clear description from the Asus support forum of how to use EZ Flash 2.

Yep, did all that and am stuck at step 10/11. I try the drive letters and no files show up in the list for me to select.

Just to recap; the USB stick is formatted with a single FAT/FAT32 partition, you extracted 1406.bin and copied it, and the USB stick was connected prior to booting the PC? The only other thing I can think of is if you're using a USB 3.0 stick the BIOS probably isn't recognizing it. I know they're supposed to be backward compatible with 1.1 and 2.0, but try using a USB 2.0 if the one you have is a USB 3.0.

Edit: since I'm not sitting in front of your PC; what is step 10/11? You may want to watch this ASUS Feature Video: EZ Flash 2, just to double-check your procedure.

Thanks. I'll try to figure that out.

The steps are from the linke Bubba supplied to Asus instructions.

Guys, I verified it's a 2.0 flash drive. I talked to ASUS tech support and they recommended formatting as FAT32. EZ Flash 2 still doesn't see it.

Any ideas??

Are you saying that EZ Flash doesn't see the .bin file, or doesn't see the USB stick at all?

Bubba, that's the thing, I'm not sure. Two drives show up, A: and C:. Neither shows any files. Just for fun, I put the file on my c: and d: hardrives and that didn't change anything. I can't tell if the flash drive is A:, C: or neither. I'm guessing neither.

The flash drive shows in windows, reformatted as FAT32 and I put the files on it as above, then reboot. I can see the flash drive glowing in the case.

I'm stumped!

I'm not familiar with your BIOS layout but look for any settings pertaining to USB and booting from USB. It's got to be a setting in BIOS that's not correctly configured, otherwise EZ Flash would instantly recognize the USB stick. EZ Flash is a very reliable Asus utility. If nothing else; note your current BIOS settings then clear the CMOS to reset the BIOS to default settings, and test it like that.
