Typical of ZZF sale: short but sweet.
But it will be back.
Earlier on this month I did buy mine, a 1000HA after a 3rd try at the price I wanted: $299.99, shipped.
I'd wait until another couple months or so for the price of this new model where I want it to be then pull the trigger.

It doesn't have the GN40 chipset. I don't even know what a GD40 chipset is... and neither does Intel.

I have 3 netbooks (a eee 900, eee 100HA and an MSI Wind U100), so I can make an informed observation about this model.

I can say that at this moment in time, the 1000HE is the only one I'd consider if I wanted to add a 4th netbook to my arsenal. I just wish it came in more colors that blue or black (in the U.S. anyway).

The weird thing is how much I ove my netbook (I use the Wind, my wife has the 100HA, and the 900 is a spare). I've owned hundreds of computers since my shiny new TRS-80 I bought abut a billion years ago, but I haven't loved a PC this much in a long time. It's so fun to have this much computing power, that runs so long on battery power, that's so light that I can throw it into a messenger bag and not know its there.

At $350 (or $380), plus the cost to upgrade to 2GB RAM and an external DVD-R/W, if you don't already have one, is a steal.

They've extended the rebate again. Has anyone who have purchased the 1000HE from zip zoom fly the past couple of months had much of a problem with the rebate processing? Trying to decide if it is worth buying and the hassle of the rebate.

looks like this is still the best deal on 1000HE? going through their ebay shop saves you another $10 or so (with current 8% ebay live CB), but not worth the trouble of waiting rebate AND CB.

I don't see how $350 is a good deal for this machine. They didn't even bother adding an extra 1 gig ram... $300 would be a lot more reasonable. Dual core netbooks with ion chipset should be becoming common right about now, and since the ion mobo itself is $180ish the netbook should cost around $400 or so. ( that is off course purely IMO and not a fact)

The problem with gigabit is power [processing and battery] not money. A few comments (all hersey not actual experience): the n280 is a bit faster than the ion. I forget why but the HE is said to be a better machine than the HA.

do these have a fan in them? How hot do they get? I guess this is pumped up a few clock cycles I'm kinda wondering if it makes it even hotter? If anyone owns one. Also is the fan loud? and does it cycle often assuming it has one?

I might be wrong... but isn't this the same model that Best Buy currently sells for $350? So the savings is basically tax... and you have to send in the rebate to make it worth it?

I'm probably missing something...

The one at Best Buy is specific to BB (model 1000HEB). It has the N270 1.60GHz processor and a shorter life battery than the HE model.

I need to pick up another netbook now. $380 for the 1000HE vs $300AR for the 1000HA.

I don't have a wireless N router at home, or use Bluetooth. So then is the difference basically keyboard and battery between the two? Thanks in advance for any insight.
