hi i am looking for some input please .i currently have an asus eah top 4850 512mb with q6600 antec neo power 650 ps . i am looking at the msi gtx 460 cyclone 1gb version . would this be a noticeable upgrade to the asus ? i play all the call of duties and crysis. some input please . thank you

Performance compared:

World at War (use GTX280/285 as a gauge of GTX460's performance)
Modern Warfware 2
Black Ops

Q6600 at stock speeds was able to put in 53 fps. Looks like a mild overclock to 3.0ghz will get you 60 fps at 1920x1080 4AA. GTX460 crushes the 4850 (88 vs. 38 fps).

Crysis is mostly GPU limited, so you already know a faster GPU will help there.

no doubt the GTX 460 will beat the EAH 4850 in every way.

another thing, you aim on playing GPU intensive games so a GTX 460 is a very noticeable upgrade from your 4850 and in addition, the GTX 460 overclocks really good.. go for MSI if you want the 460 XD

yes, I did exact same upgrade, hd 4850 --> GTX 460/786mb, using a x4 620 the amd equivalent to q6600. frame rate jump is about 35%-75% depending on game, also you gain a lot more eye candy like DX11 modes, extra AA/AFs, higher quality textures. Definitely worth the upgrade, although in certain older games there's little or no extra visual options available I don't feel the upgrade is as evident in its effect other than more fps, but in newer games like Metro 2033, most definitely you will get better visual from this upgrade.

in answer to jdawg84
cosmos 1000 case
2 640gb wd hd
eah top 4850
4 case fans ,noctua nh-u12p cpu cooler (btw great cooler 4 me)
2 dvd rom-burner drives
antec neo power 650 blue power supply
this should be enough of power supply for the 460 right?

any 460 crushes the 4850, period... playing at the same res and settings you currently use you will experience noticeably smoother play... even the much maligned 460/768 would be a big upgrade...

and that's plenty of psu...

oc that 6600 a bit and get even more frames... you need about 3.5ghz on 2 cores to get best perf in most games with the 460...

The only way a 4850 will beat a 460 is in DC Projects that require Double Precision math, such as BOINC's MilkyWay project.
