This info came from my buddy so take it like that BUT he's been in the business as long as me and thats too long... every mobo maker goes thru issues, bad caps was the worst one. He's company has had the very best of service with MSI, but.... Jerry would recommend the new ASUS line of mobo's in a heart beat cause the are fast and very reliable. 2cents ... ca-ching

I've had my ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe since early February. The chipset fan that came with the board would occasionally (and seemingly randomly) make horrendous sounds, and the ASUS Probe program would report that the fan was spinning slowly. In late April, the noises became much uglier and much more consistent.

I found this thread in the forums here

ASUS A8N-SLI Chipset Fan Replacement!

I followed the advice in that thread and contacted ASUS. They did, indeed, send me a replacement fan for free. It took a couple of weeks to arrive, as they were out of stock on replacement fans when I called, but it did come.

Installing the new fan was a bit of a pain--I had to disassemble much of my rig and remove the mobo from the case in order to get the old fan off. The new fan has been very quiet, however, and I'm happy I made the switch.

I don't know if ASUS is still shipping out free replacement fans, but you might consider contacting them to find out.

Cheers,
Jim

I am with you because my Asus board would not restart it would just give me a black screen and no it is Abit DFI and MSI also Gigabyte for me.

Hey he does have a point. I would expect a chipset fan to last for a couple years of 24/7 operation. It not rocket science to put a good ball bearing fan in it at the factory, what do they use, sleeve bearings? And save 3 cents? And its not exactly a standard replacement part.

I agree, these board makers are real idiots. They design a kick @$$ motherboard with a killer chipset, latest and greatest, and put a crappy 8K RPM sleeve bearing fan on the chipset. Where were their brains?

That's why I never buy motherboards or video cards with fans - they are simply crap and their designers should be punished. Brand PC makers do the same thing - they allow no tiny, crappy high RPM fans to get inside. Managing fans quantity and quality they make PCs that last for years on end.

On another hand, go out and buy a $200 ASUS board only to have the fan die on you in 2 months. What would you call them? They're idiots indeed.
