ASUS CUSL2 and Win98 First Edition shutdown problem

Windows hangs at the "Windows is now shutting down" screen nearly every time I shut it down "normally" through the start menu. I know there are some updates for Win98SE, but I have Win98FE and cannot use the updates.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks🙂

If memory serves me correctly the W98SE shutdown patch will also work with Win98 "OR" there is one for it also??? I cant remember because right after I got W98 I got my hands on W98SE (had finaly gotten brave enough to replace Win95OSR2 & Win95C). Maybe someone else know`s for sure...

Well, I downloaded the patch and ran it, but it refused to intall. It says "this update is not designed for your version of Windows."

🙁

Do you have an SBLive?

If so, then you must do the following:

Enable LPT Interrupt Sharing in the SB Emulation Device in the device manager.

Disable the DOS SB Emulation in the device manager.

Set IRQ 5 Reserved to Yes in PCI/PNP Resource Exclusion list in the BIOS.

Disable Legacy USB in the BIOS.

Thanks AndyHui, I had same problem. My system would not reboot only after I did your setup. That was only under win98se, w2k worked fine.

I can't disable USB since both my mouse and joystick are USB, but I'll try it just to see if it works...🙂

WHAT?!?!? DONT USE USB!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!

I love USB! I must be one of the lucky ones ot get USB love going with the CUSL2. All my input devices are USB. Check it out.....

MS Natural Keyboard Pro plugged into one USB port on the motherboard
MS Optical Mouse plugged into the second USB port on the motherboard
MS Force Feedback 2 joystick hooked into one USB port on the keyboard
Gravis Xterminator Gamepad plugged into the remaining USB port on the keyboard.

I fly along all day long. No problems. Except with Descent 3. That game didn't like my two game devices too much. That's ok because I don't play Descent 3 anymore!

I didn't say disable USB....I said disable Legacy USB. That's DOS support for USB.

Thanks AndyHui ! ... Had the same problem.
I just DISABLED Legacy USB and reserved IRQ5.

I'm having lots of fun now 🙂

I had the same problem. When I updated my bios to 1002, it fixed my shutdown problem. 🙂
But I have win98se tho.
