Asus CUBX-E

Does anyone know anything about this motherboard. Does it have the IRQ sharing that the CUBX has.(slot 3 and 6 share an IRQ and slot 4 and 5 share an IRQ)

Yes. It is exactly the same as the CUBX in all respects apart from the CMD ATA66 Controller being replaced in favour of a Promise ATA100 IDE Controller.

There are only a limited number of IRQs available for PCI slots.....there's not much that you can do about it. They are all busmaster slots though.

I know that the Promise controler is well respected but how about the CMD? I have a CUBX w/CMD an it seems to work ok. My last BX board with an add in Promise card took forever to boot into Win2k. HD performance was good once everything loaded but for some reason Win2k would just hang for a full 25 seconds at the splash screen. The CMD is much faster in this regard.

The CMD ATA66 Controller on the original CUBX was known to be somewhat problematic, which was why it was replaced with the faster Promise Controller.

ASUS has had a history of using CMD Controllers, from very early Socket 7 and Socket 8 motherboards.
