Asus, Coolmax, and Visiontek RMA service.

Well, my computer died, I had PSU test, was told "it's good. So, only thing left was the motherboard.

Asus came through, "repaired it" still had issues, they replaced it.

Still had issues, pulled vid card, still no boot.

Coolmax came through, replaced my modular 700w with a 950 modular... (note reviews for said 950 are terrible, but mine is a different model, even though retail name of it same, so hoping this one is improved)

Vid card with loaner PSU was burning my hand when I touched plastic, like super hot. Visiontek came through and replaced my 4870 512mb with a 5770 1gb board.

All in all, I have to say I am happy with every company. Took three weeks to get everything done. IE two weeks for motherboard, since did that twice, and 1 week each for psu and vid card since I sent those out after getting 2nd motherboard back.

So, I know some people have bad stories to share, just thought I would share the good ones.

Two things....

Visiontek didn't do you any favors with their substitution of your 4870 with a 5770. The 5770 is a tad slower than your old 4870. A more appropriate substitute would have been a 5830.

Second, no matter the model number on your power supply, Coolmax is just junk. I wonder if the original power supply was responsible for all your other problems. Coolmax power supplies are not known for providing clean voltage output, stable voltages, or anything else you'd measure a good power supply by.

Actually performance wise, almost the same, except I had a 512, and got a 1gb, and the card is smaller, runs cooler, uses less power, ie 1x 6pin vs 2x 6pin.

Aye, at Coolmax. When I initially looked up that PSU there were no official reviews of the cug 700w, though the several peer reviews had no issues. PC ran fine for 3 years, then PSU gave issues.

I know the PSU going out is what did in the motherboard and the video card.

I am hoping that the new PSU lasts me another 3 years or more.

On psu notes, I had a PC Power and Cooling (before they where bought) arrive DOA. I have had Sparkle, silverstone, fortron source, antec, etc all have problems now and then.

So, yes, I am aware now that coolmax generally has "dirtier" power than other PSU, however, at the time, when I bought it, there wasn't much info available besides peer reviews on newegg.
