asus cdrom50x dma problems

hi all,
my asuscdrom 50x does not handle very well the dma mode. when a cd is inserted for about 4-5 seconds the pc goes "numb" then verything is ok. i think this has to do with the "master" mode at ide2 and the cable from the board to the cdrom. to explain: the cable is terminated at the cd rom and it is not in the middle connector. any ideas on this????
 
If you go to device manager - click on cd rom - get properties on "your cd rom drive" - then go to settings tab...

Is DMA checked?
- If not check it and test....
- If it is uncheck and test...

Try another CD drive...
