I have an unknown newish Asus Mobo running an AMD processor and when I put power to the system the "CPU Overheat" LED lights up and stays red. I am guessing this is the Asus COP feature kicking in, however the machine is off and no longer running/ no longer hot. I would like to know f anyone has had a previous problem with this "feature" and if it can be overridden.

First check to ensure that your heatsink is aimed the right way and ask yourself whether you remembered to either 1) peel off the plastic protective slip from the thermal patch, if it had one, or 2) used high-quality thermal grease to transfer heat from the core to the heatsink. If you happen to have a Thermalright heatsink or another type where the clip "floats" in the heatsink, follow the link by the third photo and note the extra cautions there.

It takes about 1-2 seconds for the core to hit the danger zone if it cannot transfer the heat to the heatsink, so don't risk your CPU here and try to override C.O.P. until you're absolutely positive that it isn't a legit alarm. Also, look near the board's AGP slot and memory slots for the model name.
