I have the Asus A7M266 board with a 1.4 ghz t-bird and I just upgraded from Bios revision 1004 to 1006 and asus pc probe says it is running a lot hotter. I used to idle around 109 F and now it is at about 123 F. Is this right? I have a good heatsink and fan, so how can I get this to run cooler or atleast register the temperature right?

Going from the 1004 BIOS to 1005 or 1006 will cause the readout of the temps to increase. It is a "known" issue. Although I have seen no legit rhyme or reason given for this, the school of thought is that the temps were always reported a bit low in the past and there was something done in these revisions to address that shortcoming. However they seem to have overcompensated. If your board runs fine with no lockups in 3D or intense applications then you needn't worry. It's more of a cosmetic change than an operational problem. You can get a great deal of info on the AMDMB ASUS Forum if you want more specifics.

It's not really a problem in the true sense of the word. Yes, it would be better if the readout were a little closer to the actual temp of the cpu, but then most boards and programs are going to be off a few degrees. As I said, unless you have an inherent problem with stability that can be directly related to temperature problems, then you needn't worry. Also, as I said, if you want more detail go to the site I linked to and do a search on the board and/or the BIOS and you will get more details; including more opinions. And NO, there are no ways to "fix" this. Unless of course you want ot flash back to the 1004a BIOS. If you are not running or plan to run an Athlon XP cpu, then you really gain nothing by running 1005 or 1006 BIOS versions.
