Asus and others here, did not give me the full difference between my old RMA board and my new one just arrived motherboard
No one said I would need a different power supply 24 pins, the old one had 20.

So I purchased a new PCI Video card in time, but am stuck with a antec 480 wat power supply that has 20 pins. I sent my board out on the 2nd of may and received the new one on Friday June 1 They say max 10 days to return a board well they took more than 20 days and now I have to order a new Power supply. So it cost me 170 bux to have the new board.

If I knew I had to get a new Power Supply and a new Video Card, then I would have asked them to repair my board. They offered to repair or replace.

'I spoke to their techie at Asus and posted also an thread here at Anandtech, asking what the differences were .and what I was told is that just a new video card is needed.

the old one was AN AGP K8N-E Deluxe
the new one is K8N4-E Deluxe uses A super PCI card instead
The Ram and the Processor are both re usable.

But 170 bux would have made me make a different choice....

Hope it helps the next person to check the Power supply as well for compatability.

Did you try your 20-pin PSU on the replacement motherboard (which has 24-pin main connector according to your description)? Often times they just work. Just plug it in with 4 holes left empty. See if it works.

no reason why it wouldnt work with the 20 pin, unless the bios has a failsafe that prevents operation (like missing 12v power)

as an OEM systembuilder i never get 20-24 pin adapters for our builds becasue its not... cost effective... our 24 pin asus mainboards work just fine with 20 pin power supplies.

Well that is wonderful news :) dancing with joy :)

I was able to plug it in closest to the right side, the side where memory sticks are, the side where all the outside plug ins are. leaving the the 4 slots empty on the left side,
I hope this is correct, but will wait till someone says it is :) hate to blow up a new motherboard.

You can get a 20 to 24 pin converter for about $5. Or just line up the center notch and leave 4 pins empty.

Hi.

I have an ECS GeFORCE6100SM-M AM2 mobo and X2 4800+cpu.

The mobo has 24 pin power socket, I am using a 20 pin power supply.

I am also using the 12v+ 4 pin power connector.

It is working fine under 100% load.

I am using all onbaord stuff, no plug in cards.

The power supply is an ADT 350 watt.

3.3+ 14 amps ( 3.31 v)

5+ 35 amps ( 5.13 v)

12+ 17 amps ) 12.35 v)

The manual says to use at leats a 350 watt PS, and it might become unstable if you dont use a 24 pin power supply.

Does your power supply have the 12 v+ 4 pin auxillary connector?

EDIT:
All of my 20 pin power supplys plug in against the edge of a 24 pin connector on a 24 pin mobo, none od them will plug into the middle.

:)

You have it right... The PS Socket is designed to fit only one way... if you force it is wrong, if it went in just fine, you are golden.
