Asus A8V-E Deluxe with Nvdia 6600 (not GT)

I put my system together lastweek and just upgraded to 1003 BIOS. The problem is I can't get my 6600 card to work right. All the text and images come up from left to right (like someone is typing). Once I get into the operating system, the pointer lags really bad and then I get a bluescreen :

Drivers aren't right
Framebuf error
(something like that)

Any ideas ? I know there might be compatability issues with the 6600GT. Asus actually addressed it in the BIOS update summary. I'm just not sure if the board is shot all together or the card is. I run fine using an old 16MB PCI card.

I had the same issue with a 6600GT card on the A8V-E. The text on the BIOS screens was appearing one character at a time, and graphics were very slow to update in WinXP. I was able to fix this problem by disabling the option "PEG Data Scrambling" under the chipset menu in the BIOS. Now, text mode and 2D graphics in WinXP are fine, but launching any 3D application causes my computer to immediately reboot. If this fixes your problem, I would be interested in knowing if you are able to run 3D programs.

I just returned my card today but will be receiving the exact same card in about a week. If the same problem occurs then I will definitly try the "PEG Data Scrambling" option. I build this primarily to play games, so if launching any 3D crasheds my computer, I might go with the x700 video card. Either way, I will keep you updated. Thanks.

I spent a lot of time researching this board after I bought it. Returned it before even trying it as a result of what I found out. See this thread.

The 1003 BIOS has not correct all of the problems, apparently.

Also, releasing a board and then patching a lot issues after the release, especially when dealing with a major mobo manufacturer that is supposed to have a rep for quality, and the problem being with one of the most popular video cards available, is unacceptable.

CHICAGO ..... yeah, I saw your thread when I was researching the problem. I have a 2.8 chip (478) (not being used yet), I wish I just put that together instead of messing with PCI-Express. The 2.8 would have kept me content for another year or so. arghhhhhhhhhhh

NEWEGG is out of the card and will fully refunded my money for the 6600 ...... thank god ...... After doing some research, I found the card to be a POS. Although, I am way over budget on this computer already.

Should I go with the safe x700 (no compatability issues) or take a chance on the 6600 GT ? I am reading some real horror stories about this card running right .
