I have two chips, Does it matter wether I use the second set of slots instead of the first?
I mean, Instead of going with Slot A-1 / Slot B-1 going with Slot A-2 / Slot B-2.
I'm asking just to make sure because the XP-120 won't fit unless i mount the memory on the second set.

Well I tried it now that the HS is mounted, the memory fits well but its very very slightly touching the memory and pushing it, don't really think it will affect the memory...
Hope someone with a Asus A8V can comment on this.
 
Heh, probably those large Corsair memory modules with LEDs. 😛 It shouldn't matter much anyway. It'll most likely work fine. 🙂

Err... I mean, putting the modules in slots A1 & B1 is fine. If I remember correctly, the manual did not recommend putting the modules in slots A2 & B2 solely.

Are you sure? I could of sworn the heatsink was touching the capacitors, if you can install the heatpipes going towards the capacitors with no problems then i'll try it.
Please confirm with me on this lol don't wanna take the heatsink off for nothing
 
hmm now my concern is if the memory would fit under the heatsink like that lol
I'm gonna give it a try and see how it goes ;p
 
Well i measured to be safe, the heatsink from the base of the motherboard to the bottom of the heatsink comes out to 4.5 cm, and the memory from base to the top is 4.5 cm aswell...
So I know the memory won't fit under there :/
Question.. do the heatpipes on the XP-120 get hot? that should be my only concern :/ they don't push the memory enough to cause damage they just barely touch the memory.
 
I'm waiting for my rig to come in the mail and i've ordered the a8v and xp-120. now i've found this and am left to be concerned heh. so was the problem resolved, or was it a problem at all that it touched the memory? is it possible to put something between the two to help prevent/disperse/shield the heat from the ram?
 
..meaning that it will run as dual channel memory as long as it's mounted in sucession as a1 and b1 or a2 and b2? i dont know if i said that up so to clear it up.. im basically understanding it as if it's b1 and a2 it won't work but as long as it's 1 and 1 or 2 and 2 it will? sorry for noobing out =\ heh

Memory is in A1/B1, XP-120 heatpipes are barely touching the memory, they do not get hot.
Everything is working perfectly, been playing EQ2 this game rocks 😛
Windows XP PRO SP2 boots up in a matter of 5 seconds, again everything is working great 🙂

Could you both do a new member a favour and let me know what temperatures you are getting at idle and load? I recently finished a build using the same setup (A8V rev 2 MB, XP-120, FX55), and use a very quiet, 60CFM Nexus fan for cooling the heatsink. My idle temps are pretty high (45C with MB at 25C) but full load temps seem good (max 54 with hour of CPUBurn, K7 setting, running CPU at 2700MHZ). I am thinking about lapping my 120, the surface had noticeable ridging when I ran my finegernail over it. Were your bases smooth?

I ran the temperature sensor calibration routine found over at SilentPCreview.com, and it suggested my reported temps were 4-5 degrees too high, but the problem with that estimation is that the heatpipe technology throws a wrench into calibration as it doesn't really kick in until things warms up - it is more efficient at higher temps.

My XP-120 was fairly smooth, I went with a Panaflo though, that may be why my temperatures are better, Nexus > all supposedly as far as most silent goes. http://forums.anandtech.com/me...84&highlight_key=y

I'm also using Arctic Silver 5, I have two 80mm fans blowing from the side, one from the front/back/top.

All fans are blowing in, except the back fan and PSU which blow out.
Make sure to have good airflow, it helps...
If all else fails, You could try lapping.. but be careful 🙂

I, too, bought the Asus A8v Deluxe mobo along with the XP120. Did you have to move any capacitors? Was it difficult? Forums have been buzzing about this.
