Im looking for a new motherboard cuz my msi k8n neo 2 platinum decided the bios wants to keep resetting the date/time. Tried clearing cmos and putting a new battery in but that work at all. so i was lookin at the asus av8 deluxe. Do the Asus A8V Deluxe (v. 2.0) K8T800 Pro skt 939 motherboard support the athlon 4200+ x2 out of the box, or does it require bios update for it to work? if it needs a bios update, will i be able to just drop in my 3200+ 90nm winchester cpu so it'll boot up enough just to get the latest bios update for the dual core support. For the people who have the asus av8 delxue 2.0 how do you like it?

I have it and am although it runs great at stock speeds, overclocking is not great and some of the bois revisions have been total crap. I haven't had good luck running any bios rev new enough to support X2. Anything past 1009 won't run memtest or disable 2T command rates. Stability past FSB of 245 is questionable at best, even though I'm prime stable and use a mem divider. As far as stock performance and features go this board is pretty solid, but I do NOT recommend it for OC"ing at all.

Edit to display correct bois version

I have the A8V and have had it up to 267 mhz fsb with my 3000+, running effective at 2.4 ghz. It was prime stable and I gamed hard on it for a couple of months, then it started giving me problems. Would receive "System failed due to CPU overclock" error so I just put it back on stock and haven't touched it since.
I haven't bothered updating the bios from 1008, since I don't really want to fix something that's not broken. Have also heard that bios revisions after had screwed up memory dividers. The 1013 bios is the only one that would support dual core, and I've been having problems using AsusUpdate trying to update it.
Other than that I'm happy with the motherboard. It's stable and has great features, and I'm not the kind of person that needs every ounce of performance out of something, so I'm happy with it.

You shouldn't even need to put your old Winchester in there. You can flash the bios before the system even posts as long as you have a floppy.

The A8V Dlx is a nice board, very stable, but not the best oc'er. High fsb's this board does not like. You can acheive 250's fairly easy though which was enough for my x11 multi 3500+. Some people have got 280's out of their boards, but its a rarity on the A8V. Decent onboard sound and passive NB for silence. Check this link out they have a lotta info on the A8V-->http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=332591
Any bios after and including 1013 will work with dualies. Yes you could use your Winnie and flash to the latest.
