Asus A8V Deluxe - SATA with IDE

Okay,

So I have my OS running on a SATA HD and want to add my old Media Drive to my system. When I attach it sees it as a slave, but when I boot it says insert bootable media b/c it always looks at the IDE drive. I tried to change the boot sequence, but it only lets me choose between my CD, Floppy & IDE Drive. I Disabled the IDE Option but then it won't check the SATA....

Any advice? I'm sure there's got to be a way to have a SATA master and an IDE slave on this Mboard and Im sure Im missing something in the Bios....

Thanks

somewhere in the bios there should be a setting where you can select to have it boot from "add-in" devices first

by the way. it doesnt really have anything to do with setting your sata as "master" and the new drive as "slave"

also, is your sata drive plugged into the promise controller? or to the via southbridge controller? (your board has 4 sata ports, the top two right behind the floppy are on the southbrige. the lower two closer to the bottom of the board are on your promise controller)

In the part of the bios where you select the boot order. 1 screen before should have a menu to select the sata controller. Think it was the one right below the boot order one. Then go back to the boot order menu and the sata should be one of the choices.

I forget the exact menu, but there is a hard drive list where all of your HDs will be listed. You need to put your SATA drive as the top drive in the list and then it will appear in the boot sequence.

Thanks for the help. I will look for the menu in the bios where you order your HDs. Anyone know the specific menu?

you never answered the question about which sata controller your using. the promise? or the southbridge?

it makes a difference on how to get that drive set as your boot drive.

Just in Case anyone looks at this is the future. In the boot options menu, you can select your primary HD. Thank you for the help...
