I am having nothing but problems on my msi k8n neo2 platinum so i am going to return it. I am thinking of buying the asus a8v deluxe but i have some questions about it.

Is it a gamble for the winchester core? like the k8n neo2 platinum i recieved an old bios version that does not support the winchester core.

Does it have j1394 ports and jusb ports? (for my case)

thanks!

not a gamble, if your willing to flash the bios.

if you get the a8v + a winchester, in order to boot (the first time, just to flash it) put only one ram chip in, in the 3rd slot (from the cpu) It should boot normally, allowing you to flash it. Then put all your ram chips back in the slots where they go. TADA! youre running a winchester on an a8v.

Of coarse, there is always the chance that the board you'll get already has the new bios, and in that case you can just start up normally.

Thanks guys, will try that. Can you tell me if the a8v deluxe has a jusb port and a j1394 port? Thanks!

i just completed a new build a couple weeks ago and i too was concerned about my 90nm 3200 working with the Asus A8V without having too many problems. got both from newegg and they fired up right out of the box with the 1007 bios and 1GB in dual channel. even if it doesn't work, flashing the bios shouldn't be a problem.

i had this link saved just in case i had any issues.

good luck
